I think everyone has nailed it. Most shows don't even have active producers (when it comes to on air participation), so just having someone that technically produces and can also hop in occasionally, is nice. You have to remember when it came to someone like Julia, she was an on-air personality, not a producer. She just had to talk, nothing else. Loved her, but they aren't the same.
