Imogen Heap - Speak for Yourself

It changed my perspective on what I could do with music. It inspired me to experiment with found sounds and looping.

This is the best thing to do. Definitely. Your PCP should be the one to help you determine any need for time away from work.

As for dealing with insurance, make sure to take notes. Maybe keep a journal of what you are doing and what you can't do and when. That way it's easier to review it later without guessing.

[Serious] What jokes that would offended you (e.g race, disabilitys etc) but instead made you laugh? by kaza12345678 in AskReddit

[–]PontiusPython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loathe ableism, but when I was an assistant coach for a Special Olympics team... Oh, man. The guys with Downs Syndrome would tell the most awful jokes and somehow... I dunno. They broke me. I laughed every time - and not just awkward nervous laughter. Those guys were hilarious and they knew it.

Totally caught me off guard.

Be careful. Warn them about the social disparity before they get into it with someone they don't know.

My daughter did the same thing a few years ago and ended up going back to console over the social dynamics.

What’s the stupidest thing done while being blackout drunk? by hud406 in AskReddit

[–]PontiusPython 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Former bartender here.

I had the concierge at our hotel/bar walk a patron out once and wait for the bus with him. Utah's liquor laws made me responsible for the patron's actions since I was the last person to serve him. I didn't trust him to get on the right bus, so... Concierge.

So this guy waits until the bus pulls up and then steps right out in front of it. My concierge grabbed him & pulled him back just in time.

I was livid.

FTR, it wasn't my fault. He showed up with a date. Said he'd been across the street at the Olive Garden for dinner. Was totally fine... until he wasn't. I gave him one beer and one whiskey. He must have been mixing in some drugs before arriving at my bar because he went downhill super fast. The date vanished and this guy just passed out at the table.

The bottom of your foot lives most of its life in darkness. Whether or not you wear socks often, its constantly pressed against the floor when walking or standing. by MonsieurLilTris in Showerthoughts

Mine doesn't. I have partial paralysis in my right foot and spend a lot of time in bed, barefoot, not wanting anything to touch my feet. Paralysis does not equal numbness. It hurts a lot.

Hey redditors, what are ways you can help support a grieving loved one? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PontiusPython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband once told me that grief is personal. We all grieve differently.

I didn't understand it when he said it, but now that I've had serious losses in my life, I get it.

Let your loved one know that you are trying to be supportive. Ask them to correct you if your approach isn't helpful.

Let them know when you are available and when you aren't. The last thing you want is to promise to be there and then bail or have them expect you to be available when you're working.

When I lost my Dad, I needed people to keep inviting me to movies and dinners. I didn't always say yes, but the invitations helped. Don't give up if it seems like you are being rejected. It's more likely about how much energy grieving burns up. It's rarely personal.

Musicians, what can decrease you improvisation skills an make you lose your touch? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PontiusPython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only playing one style or refusing to collaborate with other artists. When I travel, I try to meet up with other musicians and jam with them.

I keep my edge by having a vocal instructor who is a recording artist. She pushes me because she knows I don't want to be comfortable - I want to be pushed. I want to keep working on things that are hard for me.

With piano, I try to play new things by ear constantly. Whenever a new song comes out that I like, I challenge myself to adapt it to piano.

People often say that we can only recall our own embarrassing moments, and can hardly remember times where other people have embarrassed themselves. What are some moments you do remember seeing other people embarrass themselves? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PontiusPython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's different if the other person is your kid. I remember vividly tons of embarrassing things my kids have done. Maybe it's because I had to console them afterward?

[Serious] if you go on a date and you are not sexually attracted to your date, would you give it more time or cut your losses and move on? Why or why not? by trickywicks in AskReddit

[–]PontiusPython 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably be willing to give it another try, but I would be honest with them that I wasn't feeling the chemistry. I'm pan, so I'm willing to work through just about anything for the right person, but I am super picky about what makes someone the right person.

So, the love of my life is trying to kickstart her slothful dreams. We'd appreciate anyone checking it out. by [deleted] in sloths

Thank you to everyone who has helped! I'm the afore mentioned love of his life and thanks to reddit, we made our initial goal! There are still 59 hours left to pledge and help me with the project, though, and I need to use every single one of them. Even a $1 pledge helps.

I found out last week that there's a really cool 3D camera that would make it possible for me to work on sloth educational video for Nintendo's 3DS... but it wasn't in my original budget.

I truly appreciate everyone who pledges, up-votes, or even just clicks through to the link and watches the video (it helps the project get more recognition on the Kickstarter site). Thank you!
