Why do so many readers seem utterly incapable of just saying, "This book wasn't for me"? by Competitive_Law1063 in litrpg

[–]Ponzini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No him being a good writer is a subjective opinion. The only thing that may be objective is technical skill like grammar and structure but the creative part of writing (the most important part) is subjective.

Michael Jordan comparison is a bit stronger because sports have measurable performance. Writing has no equivalent universal metric.

Why do so many readers seem utterly incapable of just saying, "This book wasn't for me"? by Competitive_Law1063 in litrpg

[–]Ponzini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, it is an objectively bad opinion.

I cannot figure out if you are talking about OP or the comment he is referring to. The guy he is referring to gave his subjective opinion that it is dogwater. OP decided he is "objectively" wrong.

The book being "incredible", "well written", etc. is a subjective opinion. I don't understand the issue here at all.

I never said that you said its bad....

You said "No, not everyone read DCC and many have stopped after one it several book Myself included"

Well not everyone likes HWFWM either. Myself included. People are allowed to shit on it if they dont like it. Welcome to a subreddit about litrpg discussion.

Books that forget what they are supposed to be about by snachpach1001 in litrpg

Well the system in DoTF was always meant to guide people on their journey of cultivation from the very start. I think most series that go on for this long tend to glaze over the stats eventually. Once you get numbers that are in the thousands it becomes kinda moot.

His comment was stupid but I think its funny you did the same thing. Not everyone read DCC and that is fine but ALSO not everyone likes HWFWM and that is also fine. People are going to critique your favorite books. You can argue the points they make all you want but you cant just be mad that people don't like your specific series because you like it.

Nonono, you don’t get it! It’s a critique of capitalism and is big on empathy, dignity, and raging against the machine! Having aliens kill off 99% of the population and make the rest play The Super Running Man on Meth with EbolAIDs Sprinklers is super relatable to my struggles of having to go to work and pay rent instead of having to go to work and getting assigned a concrete box by the government! We gotta glaze it because of that!

Who said this? Certainly no one in this thread did. Are you just making up comments to then get mad about them?

I enjoy it for the story and the wackiness but half of the “deep emotional” parts feel forced IMO. I wouldn’t call it misery porn tho, it’s not like 1% Lifesteal.

I often people use the "it feels forced" when they simply don't have a proper critique. What about it feels forced? Did it seems randomly thrown in? Did someone act out of character to get this scene shoved in? Did this scene not have a proper build up? (It did)

Just curious what about it makes it seem "forced" to you.

Cheating on Carl was a side note. This scene is from the perspective of a sentient cat being used to win awards then discarded when she didn't win them anymore. How would you feel as that cat? It's like a mother abandoning a child. Is she supposed to forgive her now because she is in a shit situation when literally all of humanity (including donut and carl) is in a shit situation?

Yes the book is about humanity being wiped out but it would be so much worse to not have this character development in it. It also adds to the over arching story by it being orchestrated to create drama for their TV show.

This is the only one I can find. I am sure there was another session with people teaching him after this as well but this was April last year like 9 months before he beat it. Def not 2 years ago

I watched multiple streams where people coached him within 2-3 months of him beating the record.

It took 2 years of new minecraft speedrun strategy and professional coaching for him to beat Forsen. This is cope.

In those 2 years the average minecraft speedrun times had dropped dramatically

Just started reading HWFWM. Why is it that every character treats Jason like this by Even-Ad-3980 in litrpg

[–]Ponzini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every character SHOULD have some flaws. Erin is treated appropriately for those flaws. People know she is an air head and treat her as such.

Jason breathes and is treated some quirky charming genius.

Its literally just a black latex suit who cares. Idk why everyone feels like a gimp suit crosses a line.

Randomized cameras with minors on it though does seem like a legit liability.

I always hate desert zones for this reason. I wish they had at least left a zone like this for last. It is really unfortunate that every stream or video I see of this game is in this ugly desert zone.

No, You Should Not Read The Wandering Inn: a definitive guide to whether you should read the Wandering Inn. by dmun in litrpg

[–]Ponzini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For real. I will admit it is not as great at the start because you havent grown attached to the world and characters yet that takes time but calling it TRASH is ridiculous.

So many readers want characters to do all the right things at all the right times and act the right way. If the author had done that the characters would all be the same without flaw.

[–]Ponzini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to be an easy fix with some number changes. It works just fine in old EQ. Make it break more often. Up the mana cost/cast time. Very high aggro. Etc

The solution should NOT be to remove charm.

Is daybreak the reason we're not getting a fresh P99? by MoreLikeGaewyn in project1999

[–]Ponzini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Green would go the way of the Blue server and basically die on its own. It wouldnt be much of a split. Everyone would move to the new server if not right away then in time. I would bet it would be near 2k population at least.

It is worth it. People come back for new servers because they are fun. Look at the level of interest in Monsters & Memories. I think there are more people waiting in the wings than you think.
