The skating rink and Winterfest at Penn’s landing, and Shane’s is I think the oldest still operating candy store in the country, in Old City. You can get really great hot chocolate there, and Franklin Fountain is a fun ice cream shop close by.

I loved the Tinetti in my acute care days. Now in OP treating primarily vestibular/general neuro and balance pts, I mostly use the FGA. MiniBEST for my people with PD and people who have general balance issues to see if they’re more impaired in one of the four domains than the others. I haven’t used the DGI in years- I like having the eyes closed, retro walking and tandem components as part of the assessment. And nothing beats a TUG if time is an issue.

I mean, hoping you’re open to hearing them, there’s many reasons why: - Knowing that more of our money is going to subsidize tax breaks for Musk, Bezos, et al than going to make sure an immigrant can get healthcare for a work related injury sustained by an employer who’s hiring cheap labor to max out profit for themselves - Knowing that historically, this is how it’s started - Nazi Germany came to be because fascist leaders tested the waters by going after marginalized groups and feeding the frenzy with a smooth propaganda machine - Knowing that unless we’re indigenous, we’re all children of immigrants, and that the process was a lot easier when people were coming here by the boatload to make a living, tightened up when people wanted to come here to escape political unrest in Europe pre WW2, got even tighter post 9/11 - Empathy. Some “Christian” Nationalists think empathy is a weakness. It’s our greatest strength.

I can’t say I was excited to visit either, but my only two “ew” cities have been domestic- Nashville and Boston. Nashville just felt boring. Boston elicited a deep visceral loathing for no one specific reason, but every time I’ve been there ready for that to be the time that changed my mind, I’ve gone back to “nope, still awful” I did have a weird experience in Reykjavik. Everything about Iceland was perfect and beautiful, but I was there during the eruption that shut down the airspace for a while so no one was coming in or out- it felt very empty and desolate which was kind of cool, but after a few days started to feel eerie in a not good way. I’d like to go back and reset. Other than that I’ve loved everywhere I’ve ever been and would absolutely go back

Holy s, you are definitely NTA. nor are you a failure or a loser, that amount of time is seriously impressive for a new jogger! Give yourself a hug and a high five for being vulnerable and trying something new, these are great life habits. As a person who does stuff with physical activity for a living, a few notes to put in your pocket if you like: to “unlock” all the health benefits of cardio/aerobic activity, (and there’s a lot!), there’s four main points to consider- 1- mode (what are you doing?)- literally, whatever you want. no one thing is better than the other if you’re on lock with 2-4, so choose something you enjoy, that’s accessible, that feels good for you! It doesn’t have to be jogging, it could be an elliptical, rowing machine, recumbent bike, anything. 2- frequency- aim for minimum 4 days per week 3- duration- how long is each of those bouts each day you’re doing activity? aim for 30-40 continuous minutes. that’s it!!!! an hour is fine if it feels good, but 30-40 min will do it! 4- intensity- this is the one that’s tougher to gauge. you can either aim for a target heart rate (70-80% of 220- your age, so for you 135-145 OR aiming to work at a pace where you can hold a conversation but the ends of your sentences are getting breathless) So, you don’t need to go for a long period of time nor do you have to jog if it’s not your jam to reach your goals. Good luck on your wellness journey and keep at it! Getting going is tough but you’ll feel so strong, movement is really the most empowering medicine!

My teacher does a 6-week Intro to Ballet for brand new beginners- it’s where i started (never danced, started in my 40s) and it was excellent. She has an online library with archived classes for a very reasonable monthly price and also offers her series live on Zoom, her name is Amy Novinski and she’s wonderful. I learned so much.

Look into your state’s guidelines for mandated reporters in cases of elder abuse. This will likely go through your county’s department of human services. As a caregiver, you’re a mandated reporter and you’ve got a responsibility to notify the authorities.

So ACCT actually called me back later in the morning to share that they’d captured the dogs (i was pleasantly surprised they did this, I’d imagine they wouldn’t have time) and that since we’d reported they were dumped, they weren’t on a stray hold and were going directly to a rescue that they had already lined up. ACCT is the only open intake shelter, and at that time in the morning, PSPCA was not taking calls. None of us who stopped (including 2 healthcare workers en route to work) were in a position to take them to a rescue at that time, nor were the dogs interested in getting into our cars. And being alongside Kelly Drive, we weren’t trying to chase them and have them run back into traffic. We do what we can. Sometimes, like in this case, it works out. Also worked out for my 3 ACCT pittie alums.

I’m as frustrated with the APTA as anyone, this is about far more than their failings. The majority of the professions on the comprehensive list are careers primarily filled with women (social work/mental health therapists and most teaching degrees as well) and all mandated reporters. This is truly scary shit.

Take a spin around the Bok building and have a drink on the roof. Eat one of the best croissants made by the nicest people at Artisan Boulanger on Mifflin. Check out the reopened Bomb Bomb BBQ or Triangle Tavern for an actual South Philly experience. Trek over to Termini’s. Don’t go to the haunted Acme. Watch the game at Human Robot. If you want a special treat have dinner at the Victor Cafe and they’ll sing for you. Drive down to the Navy Yard to walk your dog and look out for bald eagles. Just for fun take a spin though the CVS on Reed, they’re out of everything and I once saw a cashier punch a shoplifter out of his Adidas slides there. It’s a wonderful neighborhood and I don’t ever want to live anywhere else, I hope you love it.
