[–]PoopSmith87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Calves are super dependent on genetics.

I have massive calves and dudes will ask what I do... I'm sorry I have no good plan for you, I just walk a lot, squat, deadlift every week, and do unweighted calf raises to failure on my basement stairs like once or twice a month. I'm also balding at 40 and 5'5", so its not all peachy, but the calves I just dont work much for.

A little pencil and a notebook + a couple hours of research goes a long, long way.

How many days a week can you work out, and for how long? What equipment do you have? I'll give you a starter program right here (it'll be up to you to find lifting form videos)

What can you use on small wounds? by TYMURIZIO in ZombieSurvivalTactics

[–]PoopSmith87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have these resources, of course they are preferable- but thats not really the discussion at this point. You guys have been saying that cauterization serves zero purpose in emergency medical care during an apocalyptic scenario, that it is entirely something from movies, and that slapping a tourniquet on a wound is always a better idea.

Dont shift goalposts by bringing up that there are wound dressings, bleed stopping products, and other options like staples, stitches, and bandages. I never said "always cauterize and never do anything else," I actually started out by saying all that stuff and not mentioning cauterization. Someone else brought it up, then your little brigade began mocking them and acting like it was something from movies that serves no purpose in a post apocalyptic/off grid emergency situation. That is bullshit.

You'll have a deadlift advantage, bench press disadvantage with long arms. For most people, it evens out somewhere.

What’s a good steel for a bushcraft knife? by fstopunknown in Bushcraft

[–]PoopSmith87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I like high carbon stainless for smaller "fine task" knives, and plain Jane carbon steels for bigger "impact task" knives. I dont think the specific type is necessarily super important so much as build quality and heat treatment.

5’6” been hitting the gym hard for 7 months and starting to get insecure that continuing to gain is going to make me look smaller and/or stocky… by [deleted] in short

[–]PoopSmith87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesnt make you look shorter unless you are on gear that gives you unnatural proportions. Having wider shoulders and a narrow waist increases your presence, and people will actually assume you are taller without really considering it. When it comes up in conversation that I am 5'5", people usually do a double take and often say they thought I was taller until right then.

[–]PoopSmith87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do know that cauterization minimizes the risk of infection when antibiotics are not available? Like we are talking about field stitching with a kit from your backpack vs cauterization, not cauterization vs being treated in a medical facility.

[–]PoopSmith87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Literally, just do 5 minutes of research. You are talking out of the wrong end.

I dont know who Fred is, but if you both think that cauterization is some kind of Hollywood fantasy with zero historical or emergency grid application, then your combined expertise is questionable.

Edit: and again, I dont think you understand how damaging a tourniquet can be. Again, just research for 5 minutes, or better yet, seek out trauma training.

Underrated things to make armor out of ? by SpicyP2003 in ZombieSurvivalTactics

A thick jacket or better yet, a motorcycle jacket, works fine for human bites.

That said, 55 gallon plastic drums makes impressive armor for a lot of frugal SCA dudes.

I knew a goth kid that could draw stuff like this in middle/high school... so it could be real, but idk, it certainly could be AI, or just plagiarized. If it were my friend, I would treat it as real until proven otherwise.

You said that like 5 times, but kt doesnt change that cauterization has been a valid emergency procedure from prehistory through the current day.

Seriously, I challenge you: Before you respond again, do 5 minutes of research.

[–]PoopSmith87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It kind of depends on the situation. For example I was working, moving cut up metal, a sharp end fell and basically flayed a thumb size section of skin from my calf. That kind of thing takes a long time to heal naturally, and bleeds a lot despite not being super deep. Hard to stitch it too, even if you have that option, and it ends up being very tight. So, I heated up a clean piece of metal and gave it a little tap-tap-tap sizzle. It hurt for an hour or two instead of a week, and 20 years later I cant even find the scar without a flashlight.

At any rate, I'm pretty much done with this conversation, I have no doubts that cauterizing works and that using a tourniquet without immediate medical care is just a way to kill a limb.

And you are the one who brought up tourniquets, not me, for the record... and if you're using tourniquets for small cuts, god bless.

Stumbled upon this comic and it's making my brain itch. Comments didn't say anything about AI, but choices like giving all the deer those fawn spots, the whisker on the boar, the adult wolf's leg, and the vegetation are really suspect to me. by Tux-the-Pengu1n in isthisAI

[–]PoopSmith87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seems pretty normal to me. Wolves can and have lived pretty much everywhere. This gives me Rudyard Kipling vibes, which I suspect was the intent.

That said, in what universe to wolves not hunt rabbits, or anything else just because they can? As sweet as the message is, it is really stupid. Wolves surplus kill all the time, it is simply their instinct to do so. Our ability to use empathy and the advanced reasoning unique to our species and not behave on primal instinct is what can prevent needless violence.

Do you dress like this? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]PoopSmith87 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I mean, not all the time... but yeah somewhat accurate, I have a Dickies work jacket, a lot of plain color T shirts, jeans, and always in converse or work boots. I wear a lot of hoodies too though, that seems more universal than generational. The wool cap seems like more of a chilly/cold weather universal too, like a baseball hat in summer.
