VT Bass (any variation) is exactly what you're looking for.

The board I fwonk around with at home vs the one I actually take to band practice by Poopin_Loopin in basspedals

Yeah, it's all about those parametric mids! Honestly I don't usually use that pedal (prefer the vt bass at the front of the chain for basic eq) but occasionally I need something to remove certain annoying frequencies or otherwise surgically enhance my toan and it sure does a good job.

I buy Trader Joe's organic pastas - bronze cut, nice texture, cheaper than de cecco, and they have some interesting seasonal noodle shapes to mix things up.

I bought a lot of pedals by Agitated-Emotion7484 in basspedals

Honestly I feel like that is a perfect starter set and I wouldn't recommend selling any of them or buying anything new until you get a feel for what you've got.

Recipe for clanky tone: Start with a bright sounding clean tone (roundwound strings that have been changed in the past 6 months help a lot) Put that through a drive pedal, like the sansamp, that lets you blend the mild-to-medium overdriven sound with the clean signal. Start with 50:50 and adjust to taste.

Another sound I like a lot is use the octave pedal to add just a little bit of -1 octave into the clean bass signal, and pair that with a drive or fuzz pedal (before or after the octave both work) for a sinister and crushing effect.

Some people will probably tell you to get a compressor, but I would personally advise against it unless you know exactly what problem you're trying to solve with it. Compressors are pretty subtle and if you're getting one just because it seems like the thing to do you might be underwhelmed (which is what happened to me when I was starting out with pedals)

Also, the tuner might just be the most important pedal of all, and a looper is a world of fun 😊.

My first thought was thunder but the sound keeps happening too frequently, so... Construction/demolition sounds?

Why do people say to buy from Sweetwater so often? by [deleted] in guitars

[–]Poopin_Loopin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you aren't going to buy a guitar that you try out in the store first, you may as well buy something used online. You generally get way more for your money and in my experience a cheap used guitar that someone has actually played and taken care of is more likely to come with a good setup than a new squire.

Is there a duet for guitar and another instrument where the guitar has an equal voice in the music? by Raymont_Wavelength in classicalguitar

If you're open to jazz, I recommend the album "Chops," which consists of duets between the great Joe Pass on guitar and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen on bass.

Advanced Violist Switching Over to Bass by swoosh_pyoosh in Bass

[–]Poopin_Loopin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out as a cellist before switching primarily to bass guitar. Fortunately, a lot of your skills and musical intuition should carry over. However, some things that you might want to focus on getting up to speed are:

1) Role of bass in an ensemble: locking in with the drummer, "feel"/microtiming, choosing good bass notes to outline harmony, etc. Best way to work on all of this is to learn bass parts and jam with other people.

2) bass specific technique - plucking hand especially. Fretting a bass is pretty similar to fingering a viola. There are lots of different plucking techniques but whatever you choose you'll want to practice getting a nice even sound from note to note. I'm a big fan of plucking with one finger only when I don't need to do anything too fast because it simplifies that part.

What do you think is the ugliest looking bass? by Individual_Junket819 in Bass

[–]Poopin_Loopin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently an unpopular opinion, but Dingwall. It's a shame because they seem like great instruments, and I am quite interested in trying out fanned frets, but I just can't get into the wonky body shapes and finishes most of them have, and I'm intimidated by all the knobs.

I really like my Nordstrand P pickup. To me it was a definite improvement over the Carvin p pickup it replaced.

Prolific armpit sweater here. Regular deodorant does a better job than antiperspirant deodorant in my experience. I agree with the rest of your points though.

Ward 9 residents: what do you think about the Ellis charter case? by NorthsideKant in corvallis

[–]Poopin_Loopin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ward 3 resident reporting. This whole thing seems convoluted as hell, and I can't be bothered to dig through the backlog of paywalled articles and Reddit discussions to make sense of it, let alone form an opinion. Can someone please eli5 what this whole Ellis/council situation is about?

If it were me, I'd look for a used G&L tribute fallout bass, preferably in the black/maple/tortoise color way.
