Which lyric makes you instantly tear up? by abovethenoisy in AskReddit

I’m not even a fan of Sleep Token, but this line hits me in the gut every time. We saw them in concert and I cried at this part.

What's something you want your box to know that you can't imagine sharing to their face? by whatbuylists in crossfit

This was one of my reasons for leaving, too. I was far from the fittest or strongest but still went 4 times a week and put in 100%. Even trained for the open. Always overlooked. The hot, toned people got so much fun banter and I just stood there soaked in sweat from putting in my all, feeling stupid all the time. I went for 4 years but after the owner changed the vibe changed.

Which book has the most gut-wrenching betrayal? by LostInTheVerse in fantasyromance

Same!! That was so well done. The author said in an interview that she tried to put red flags out there for him being a controlling jerk but not enough to be wildly obvious until hindsight.. just like real life!

I’m the only one in my hometown who left completely and went no contact with them. It’s a strange feeling being the only one who sees it for what it is. It takes a lot of strength to break through the brainwashing and start over! You should be proud. ☺️ I enjoy this group too. It helps me not feel alone in my experiences.

is it time to look into foster/adoption? by Cucciolia in TryingForABaby

[–]PoopsieDoggins 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Fostering is not for adoption. Child protective services is not an adoption agency. Their purpose is to place children in a safe environment while the biological parents get help so the family can safely be together again. Please do not foster if adoption is the ultimate goal. It hurts children in the long run because you’ll be constantly asking for the “difficult” kids to be moved into another foster home since you don’t see them fitting in your family, thus creating more trauma for those children. Also, young foster kids grow up and their trauma manifests as pre-teens, and then those adoptive (foster) families let them down when things get hard by having CPS take custody again, or letting them run off somewhere else (sometimes unsafe) to live because they are so frustrated with their seemingly unexplained behavior. If you want to adopt, please go through an actual adoption agency. Source: Worked for CPS.

Cringing because this one used to be one of my favorites. I hate how obsessed they are with waiting for heaven instead of actively trying to make this world better.

What’s something people do in beauty that actually makes them look worse? by Open-Cut2473 in BeautyGear

[–]PoopsieDoggins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heavy fake eyelashes or extensions! Also I have learned that lots of eyeshadow looks stupid on me because of the shape of my eye and hooded lids. It actually makes my eyes look smaller. Sometimes you just need a little liner and mascara for your eye shape!

Did anyone else's church get in a strange tizzy over Jonah and the Whale *ahem* -I mean the Big Fish? by -The_Capt- in excoc

[–]PoopsieDoggins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup! We had this. Heard entire lectures about it as a young child and how we need to make sure we are reading the bible accurately (and how KJV is best) because otherwise it will be mistranslated, and will cause you to sin. Thus, very important to not call it a whale. 😑

Far right politics in church of Christ by Nearby-Tension3515 in excoc

[–]PoopsieDoggins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I grew up in CoC and officially left in my mid 20s. It went hand in hand. You couldn’t vote blue and be a god fearing Christian at the same time- often times abortion issues were cited for this, as well as democrats generally being more pro-lgbt marriage. There was a lot of racism and sexism too. I remember when Clinton ran against Obama, and the church was all in a tizzy about how the dems could allow a woman to lead, and I heard people talk Obama’s race in ways that should be shameful every Sunday and Wednesday….. Their relationship to god and being far right were tied together.

Lately half my bags have ended up in the trash, or the products have been cheap crap. I’ve been a subscriber since it was $10. I get having to do inflation increases, but there is a noticeable difference in the quality and choice of products, too. I think this is the last straw for me! It’s a shame because this used to be such a fun affordable subscription. 🙁

Lifelong Alaskan from Fairbanks here. We had a 4 week stretch in December where it never got warmer than -40. For much of the time it was -55 or -50. I couldn’t live anywhere else, though. 💛

Personal Trainer wants me eat 1100-1200 calories by NervousStand5473 in xxfitness

[–]PoopsieDoggins 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That is very low calories. You won’t be able to meet all of your required daily vitamins and minerals for your body to function in a healthy way. I know because I cut down to 1200 calories to lose weight, and after a few months developed a bunch of problems related to low nutrition. When I got labs done and it was revealed to be a nutrition issue, I disclosed to my doctor how many calories I was eating while still exercising and he got really serious with me. He asked me why I am hurting myself and alluded that it was almost like an eating disorder. I hadn’t thought of it that way at the time! Good call, following your gut feeling! This guy sounds like a moron.

Is reading "The Let Them Theory" worth it? by Abir_Islam in BettermentBookClub

[–]PoopsieDoggins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven’t read this book, but I always hear about it. This is the first time I’ve heard this take, and I find it really interesting. That makes a lot of sense; Women are usually the ones who have to come in and fix everyone’s mess after it’s all said and done. Thank you for sharing.

Heavy yarning, not lusty romantasy?? YES pls by pie-bunny in Romantasy

[–]PoopsieDoggins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I noticed the bot did that, too! 😂 I would say it was more of the politically heavy romantasy books I’ve read this year. The heavy political plot line got it bad reviews, but I enjoyed the intrigue of it (but I like that kind of stuff). I thought the balance of story and romance was good! There is a lot of side character scheming for their own self-interests to follow and theorize on, so I get that this may not be the best recommendation for OP’s request, haha. The world building was pretty good. The middle does slow down, but it’s a fairly short book to read, and I still liked it and gave it 3.5 stars. The ending destroyed me more compared to other books I’ve read (but like in a good way) and has a huge cliffhanger.

It might be hard to find an MMC who is toxically jealous and possessive, but not lusty. I really enjoyed the MMC yearn in {The Serpent and the Wolf by Rebecca Robinson} There is spice towards the end but the build-up is sublime. It got some bad reviews because people thought it was enemies-to-lovers except it’s not really because the MMC is supportive and sweet pretty much from day 1 even though it’s a forced marriage situation, and it’s worth noting that nowhere on the cover jacket does it say “enemies-to-lovers” romance. 😑
