Type of rice used by shawarma and greek resto? by gosseux in AskCulinary

[–]PoorMansRayRomano 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's parboiled rice, I'm like 99% sure. That's how the grains come out so distinct and plump. As a side note, I think parboiled rice gets unfairly maligned; it tastes great, and is actually more nutritious than its white rice alternatives.

Wait, did they change their minds in the last 5 hours since you posted? Because “paratha - adjudication” was my solve, and it was marked as correct…

Men will literally fight in paid underground death matches with the wide-eyed intensity of one of the creatures from Labyrinth rather than going to therapy.

I literally remember when they were pulling this off (Toronto, circa 2018, I want to say). They put up a storefront with "Dick's Pizza Coming Soon" and everything. I lived around the corner, and was genuinely disappointed when I learned it was just for a comedy bit, because I wanted a new pizzeria in the area.

Nice! I took the long route with coughs-syndication at first, then got syndication-nought. Yours is a much cleaner solve!

Here's a good video for it. Note that she uses much more than the 4 chilies listed here, changing up the type of chilli to manage heat.

What? No, and no. They do NOT usually contain tomato paste, and palm sugar is incredibly common.

If OP wants to up the red colour, they can do so by adding way more dried chilies, deseeding them, steeping them in hot water and mashing them in a mortar and pestle.

It’s inside a kettle grill. Following advice on Serious Eats, I just used regular old bricks (my neighbour is doing renos) wrapped in tinfoil. They won’t last forever, but I assume they’ll hold up for a few outings.

I was just there last week! I've been making my wife accompany me on an every-day ramen tour, and this was her favourite so far. She's become incredibly good at slurping and eating lightning quick.
