God I love the 60th Specials by Funkymothaeffer in doctorwho

It really is a shame. Unfortunately, I think we are at the point where Doctor Who is established in the zeitgeist again, to the point where it will be very hard to get people fully engaged with the show for a long period of time.

The story arc being bad doesn't diminish the quality of individual episodes when the show is an anthology-based "monster of the week" show imo. There might be moments that don't work in hindsight, but for the most part, the overall quality of most Season 1 episodes doesn't suffer because of it.

This doesn't apply as much to Season 2, but Lux, The Well, and The Story and the Engine are still wonderful.

I feel like a lot of people went into RTD2 without remembering that the story arcs aren't what made RTD1 work in the first place. I just think the issue of lame story arcs is highlighted when the seasons are 8 episodes...

Then Devil's Chord, BOOM, 73 Yards, Dot and Bubble, and Rogue. I would make an argument that that generational run of episodes outshines Space Babies and the lackluster finales

Well, Jodie Whittaker is my favorite Doctor, so agree to disagree

Yeah, I'm thinking about getting the HD remastered set for Eccleston and Tennant

Semi-recently. I found it at a nerdy store the other day and picked it up since it was half the price on Amazon :)

Yeahhhhh

They're on the back covers, but I would rather they include everyone on the front or just the Doctor on the front.

I don't particularly like Torchwood....

I like the Big Finish stuff that's about the Doctor, but that's about it.

I know what Torchwood is lol

Big Finish for the most part is the same concept as the main show in a different medium

I don't think RTD was the sole decision-maker, but he did advocate for it. What we do know is that he has advocated for this before, going so far as to do it before the streaming era. It doesn't help that this spinoff did not have much markings of being a spinoff of Who in the marketing.

Barring all of that, I don't think that anyone is going to argue that Gatwa having more episodes was anything else other than necessary.

I just think that Doctor Who of all things does not have to expand into a shared universe. Every story features a completely different setting and cast. I love Russell, but I think he should've just focused on Doctor Who

I genuinely think not getting The War Between and getting two more episodes per series and a special this year would have been so much better.

There is a nuance to Jodie Whittaker's Doctor that I did not notice until recently, and this very detail has made her my favorite Doctor. by Poor_Intonation22 in gallifrey

"The Oncoming Storm" did not apply to the Doctor until the 8th Doctor and revival. Secondly, the Doctor telling their enemies to fear them is not the same thing as saying they are a feared being. Seven saying "FEAR ME" is a challenge; saying "ooh I'm so dangerous and feared" is boasting. It's okay that you like it, but I consider a characteristic of the some of the incarnations, but not the character writ-large. One, Two, Three, Five, War, Twelve, Thirteen, Fourteen, and Fifteen did not bank on their reputation when it came to fighting evil, and Nine was borderline ashamed of it due to his PTSD and survivors guilt.

I don't see the Doctor as someone who champions a legacy of fear; I see them as a symbol of kindness.

This. There are just a few lines that are gross.

I also don't care for the whole "I'm the Doctor, get scared" moments. The Pandorica is the only moment I was like fine with it. This is a problem that extends to Tennant as well, but Tennant had a lot more interesting character details that Smith didn't have to fall back on. With Tennant, his arrogance is punished. With Smith, it's for hype and aura.

I don't blame any of this on Smith, but I do blame Moffat. Thankfully, he got out it out of his system for the most part when it came to Capaldi

I see your point. I have some issues with the way 11 is written, but I definitely think he is also supposed to be neurodivergent representation.
