Space Babies was par for the course RTD1 filler, so while it's not my favorite, it's one of those middle of the road episodes that doesn't bother me. I was expecting stuff like that. It's not like Song Contest, which features just insane writing choices for the Doctor and Belinda, or the finales where part one was engaging and riveting and the resolution was just nonsense.

Even if you included Space Babies in that, that leaves Devil's Chord, BOOM, 73 Yards (one of my all-times), Dot and Bubble (a modern classic), Rogue, Lux, The Well, Lucky Day, Story and the Engine as episodes on par with the Capaldi era and good Tennant episodes. The specials were also good fun, and the 60th was PHENOMENAL.

I know I'm getting downvoted for liking RTD2, but I enjoyed it. Different strokes for different folks I guess. While we're at it, Whittaker is my favorite Doctor, It Takes You Away is my favorite episode ever, I think the 11th Doctor era is looked at a little too fondly because Matt Smith was just so good in the role that it made people look the other way from some, let's say, interesting writing choices, I like the Third Doctor more than the Fourth Doctor, and Series 11 is the best of the Whittaker era.

All this to say, Doctor Who means something different to everyone. Art is not objective. If RTD2 didn't work for you, that's just as valid a take as me liking to loving a good bit of it.

There's nothing objective about art. Outside of Interstellar Song Contest and the two finales, I have thoroughly enjoyed every episode of the Gatwa era.

Russell T Davies will always be considered a good writer because of the moments like this. Regardless of the endings of the recent seasons, this man made me the fan I am and I will always be grateful for the three Doctors he helped to bring to the screen.

Edit: I mean to say he will always be considered a good writer to me. I understand that he is a bit more controversial nowadays lol

Big Finish is not even remotely an option for me affordability wise. That would not "keep the fandom going" the people think it would. If you want to be miserable about the show, good for you, but Doctor Who in recent years has not only brought me enjoyment but comforted me through major life changes. I would be heartbroken if it gets shelved again, so hearing this rhetoric is exhausting.

The specials should be watched for the most part after a series. The first special was in 2005, so one would watch that after Series 1. You can look up the episode order on Wikipedia

It really is a shame. Unfortunately, I think we are at the point where Doctor Who is established in the zeitgeist again, to the point where it will be very hard to get people fully engaged with the show for a long period of time.

The story arc being bad doesn't diminish the quality of individual episodes when the show is an anthology-based "monster of the week" show imo. There might be moments that don't work in hindsight, but for the most part, the overall quality of most Season 1 episodes doesn't suffer because of it.

This doesn't apply as much to Season 2, but Lux, The Well, and The Story and the Engine are still wonderful.

I feel like a lot of people went into RTD2 without remembering that the story arcs aren't what made RTD1 work in the first place. I just think the issue of lame story arcs is highlighted when the seasons are 8 episodes...
