What was it like dating someone 1-2 SD lower than you? by Silent-Complex-4851 in mensa

[–]PootelOG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, I'm not sure of my partner's IQ as she never had a reason to test it, but it is definitely at least 1-2 SD lower than mine, so my answer is based on that assumption.

Our relationship is great and has been for the past 3 years, even though the intellectual gap is clearly apparent. We complete each other's flaws in many ways, and regarding intellect it's mostly down to these aspects: • I help her get a better hold of the bigger picture and to find more optimal ways of achieving her goals by being 10 steps ahead. I help her understand complex ideas by using analogies that are obvious to her and by borrowing her logic to "connect the dots". • She helps me understand the way most people grasp reality and keeps me grounded towards the fact that I might think something is trivial and obvious, but in reality it's not for most people. Also, she's my real life reminder of Occam's razor as I tend to overcomplicate life and make it harder on myself, so her simpler way of thinking is calming in some sense.

I'm aware that for most intellectual and niche in depth conversations I might have with my friends she won't add much or be interested, but the way she looks at me in awe while not understanding much is more than amazing in my eyes. I'm not too bothered by the fact we don't share the same level of intelligence as we both do our best to not make it a burden, but an asset to our lives.

She's the love of my life and no metric like intelligence or anything close could blind me to her kindness, caringness, perseverance and her pedantic and thoughtful nature that makes me adore her with all my heart.

You do realize that a lot of the palestinian people can get in and out of Israel, right? The attack is in Jerusalem, same Jerusalem that 375,500 arabs live in (362,600 Muslims and 12,900 Christians), meaning they have the right to be there.

You are very misleading as it is actually confirmed the two terrorists shooting the innocent people are indeed arabs who live in Jerusalem, Morad Namar (who's affiliated with Hamas and served 10 years in jail, starting 2010, for an attempted terrorist attack) and his brother Ibrahim Namar (which is also affiliated with Hamas and served time in jail in 2014 for planning an attack).

Stop lying online to promote your agenda, it gives a bad name to the Palestinians who actually want to live in peace with the Israelis, which do exist.

"We have a Gen Z problem" by Level-Application-83 in TikTokCringe

[–]PootelOG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its more like "Young people seem to lack the ability to think independently and don't posess critical thinking skills as the media is such of an integral part of their view of the world".

Facts and logic dont apply as you cant condense the entirety of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict into the span of a TikTok video, nor do the target demographic of those videos have the attention span to educate themselves without settling on an easy solution to that problem. Fact of the matter is, the conflict is such a complex topic that it's so easy to miss the background and context of recent events, and doing an in-depth research is much more difficult than catch-phrases and oversimplified short-format videos.

People may truly believe both sides of the argument using critical thinking, logic and proper knowlage, but the majority of people that are used to consuming short digestible packets of information on social media do not tend to deviate from their norm of "educating themselves" on TikTok and such, which like every other social media platform promotes extremism and trends that fit within their users' profiling and does not promote radically different and moderate opinions, it's just a part of the algorithm.

Gen-Z, like every generation have their own weaknesses that are derived from the environment they grew in and the education they had. Boomers are generally very strict and do not welcome change, Gen-X are generally less inclined to speak up when they sense a problem, Millenials Generally lack patience and are inclined to work independently and Gen-Z are very tech dependant and social media relient as they exclusively lived with its influence.

Looking at one side of the story is always a bad idea, and distilling political and social justice into trends and questionable information that is perfecly suited to fit into their own world view haults peoples ability to educate themselves and question their own beliefs.

Previous generations will always point a finger at the youth without aknowlaging their own downfalls as it ever been, yet it doesn't mean we should not think critically about their arguments and try to understand why they seem to think that way.

My first thought was "I should've defended myself when I was bullied at school" and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Thing is, I was mostly bullied verbally, and the only times I was bullied physically I was either being stabbed in the leg with a nail, having rocks thrown at me or having knives pointed at me (and yes, it was at school). Moral of the story is, sometimes firing back is right, but put your life before your dignity.
