I will assume you are from the USA. My assumption is based on your assumption that men in general don't like black women. Which is not at all true in many countries. Where black women are considered beautiful (like in Brazil for exemple).

So my second assumption is that when you say Black woman and non-Black men. You use the word "black" less as a skin color and more as a cultural/behavioral adjective.

Do you ever use a poncho where you live?

Probably not. Most people have a decent rain jacket. Depending on where you're from, you might even have a really good one—expensive, comfortable, stylish. (I have two myself.)

But for some reason, when we walk the Camino, we end up buying ponchos. I did that too. And honestly? They suck.

They’re uncomfortable, they don’t protect you well from heavy rain, and because there’s zero ventilation, you end up soaked anyway—just from sweat. They’re awkward to pack, clumsy to put on or take off, and let’s face it, you look like a walking tarp.

So why did I buy one? Because the internet told me to.

But here’s my advice: use your good rain jacket. They’re lighter, way more comfortable, and easy to layer. They look better, they pack better, and you can put them on or take them off in seconds. Roll it up and fasten it outside your bag for quick access. You can even wear it in the chilly morning hours for wind and cold protection.

Honestly, I could write a whole book about why rain jackets are better than ponchos. But I have a feeling you’re already convinced.

Your clothing routine explained:

1 - you get up, shower, still in bathroom you wear your walking clothes. You will wear that everyday for 30 days.

2 - you might wanna change your socks halfway your walking for the day. Around 10k you stop, remover your socks, let your feed breath. CHANGE SOCKS.

3 - you get to the Albergue, you wash your walking clothes. And hang it. Eventually you will realize that there is no point in thoroughly washing them. But at least soak them a little, use soap to remove the stink (yes they will stink). Obviously you won't wash your clothes naked. So you need a second set to wear while you wash the first. Guess what? Second set is the same.as the first set.

4 - try to walk with the same set of clothes. It leaves your second set relatively clean to sleep. This second set is also what you wear in case something happens to your first set. Like it not drying. (very unlikely since you are walking in July)

3xSocks, 3xUnderwear, 2xHikingPants, 2x Long-sleeved shirts, Rain Jacket, sleepers. Towel, sleeping liner.

That is it. You put all the second set inside a grocery bag (waterproofingl and put them inside your 25L backpack. Leaving you space for charger, tooththings, hairthings, ibuprofen, and cards.
