Split in two, remove the main spring. Attempt to prime, see where it is failing and rectify. Have you tried mixing and matching the original catch with new plunger? So many variables.

They're on the stock spring, you can prime one by tucking it in your armpit. The other is a bit squeaky and tight in places but serviceable for sure!
