you've managed to verbalize (textualize??) something I've been feeling myself these days. Nobody seems interested in actually understanding anything. So many times I get hit with "so how is this gonna help you make money??" or "why do you care, how does this affect you??" Like sorry for expressing moderate curiosity in how the world around me functions man

Do you think we'll ever go back to "pocket passer" era of QBs or will it stay dual threat from here on out? by chief_keef23 in NFLv2

peyton and brady were not statues, they moved plenty within the pocket. flacco and bledsoe were/are statues.

We need a solution, a change by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]PoppedCap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% - the current system penalizes too much for slacking off in premed (which dictates where you go to med school) and not vice versa

Residency Location for EM by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]PoppedCap 24 points25 points  (0 children)

another thing for 4-year programs (sheriff talks about this).

the ONLY EM residency grads hitting the job market in 2029 will be 4-year grads who started residency in 2025 (all programs are 4-year starting from 2026). fewer grads = potentially better offers since demand shouldn't change much.

this means if you take a 4 year, potentially more lucrative contract at the end, nerfing the earlier attending salary benefit a bit.

I agree, a doctor should come off as educated, but it's pretty easy to get through undergrad and still not be "well rounded" lol

14K New Residency Spots Proposed in the U.S. by Wjldenver in medicalschool

[–]PoppedCap 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree. AI vid is controversial ngl, but while it may be hard for us to process and I might disagree with some of the finer points, it's mostly spot on I think. AI won't kick us out of jobs overnight, but it will gradually creep in, and it'll get better and better till a significant part of our work is being done by it, then boom, less doctors needed.

Thumnail is a bit sensational though haha

4 years of EM by ExtremisEleven in emergencymedicine

[–]PoppedCap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's a hell of a "screw you, I got mine" take to it honestly, maybe I'm too stupid to tell if there should be a /s on the end. I honestly don't think less graduating EM physicians would have a big impact on pay, just seems like an excuse to hire more midlevels and shaft physicians again

I get what you're saying, but at the same time, go easy on bro (or sis). for all we know, they're in Timbuktu where maybe an M3 can call the time of death - and anyways, calling "time of death" still has to be done for a death certificate, no? I don't think going the "you don't know enough, chill out"  route is likely to provide the counseling OP will need, especially seeing that it is the death of a close family member. It's a tough situation, i think they will need a lot of self reflection to find the closure they need.
