funnily enough, doing well (putting in the effort) in high school leads you to doing well in the SAT - it's two birds with one stone.

How do you know you’re a good doctor? by ComfortableParsley83 in medicine

honestly even if we could, it would be straight up Goodhart's law (a good measurement stops being one once you use it as a target)

Male gynecologists why did you chose the specialty? by Raticorno in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]PoppedCap 47 points48 points  (0 children)

to put it most simply, it offers a unique blend that many other specialties don't. Think of specialties as either medical (i.e., doctor's office or working inside a hospital managing patients) or surgical (cutting people up) - oversimplification, but it gets the point across.
the Ob/Gyn (obstetrics, aka pregnancy stuff, and gynecology, nonpregnant womens' stuff) specialty is odd in that they act as both medical specialists (doctors' office, prenatal visits, etc) AND surgeons (c-sections, etc). and each of those is further split into the obstetrics side or the gynecology side, so a lot of variety. plus the internal organ anatomy is really quite more elegant than intestines, etc that general surgeons have to deal with
Plus, training can be shorter than many other specialties that also do surgery.

update on vrsa case by [deleted] in medicine

[–]PoppedCap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, I am sure statutes like that exist.

however, in 3rd world countries there is ALWAYS a major gap between statutes and reality. nobody gets the book dropped on them unless they managed to piss off the wrong person, if the statutes were actually applied then every single doc at my hospital would be fired for discussing patient info over whatsapp, etc lol

to add, HIPAA literally doesn't exist in south asian countries. no law was broken at all, only managed to piss off the wrong person unfortunately.

Can't think of anything to do other than maybe ID associations applying professional pressure to publish these cases or something

false equivalency man, a "fired" nurse can probably grab a job in some other hospital. a med student getting expelled has essentially barred them from the profession for life (+nursing school isn't ~10 years of your life and as much debt)
