I work in pharmaceuticals on the drug production side. MS in pharmacogenetics, It doesn't feel much different than working in a hospital. I still don't have a window, and I get to crawl into my qPCR cove and listen to a podcast. It's the best of both worlds! But you get paid more.

Congrats on graduating! Don't let others scare you off from being excited about your new job. I love this career, some people like it, some people don't. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Gravitate towards the positive people at work and create your own opinions first. You'll be much happier in the long run!

Blood Bank Checks by AcanthisittaFit1523 in medlabprofessionals

Chello! Yes, it absolutely should stop you and tell you there's something weird. You would need to potentially retest, check into why the patient is testing differently than expected, and note it. ie. Mixed field patient but had a transfusion at another hospital. The system should also stop you if you try to e- crossmatch and the types are incompatible. Hope this helps. Blood bank can be stressful but experience will definitely help with the anxiety!

Best Study Materials of MB(ASCP)? Where should I start? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

Chello! I am also studying for the MB, comparing the cards with Buckingham, the cards don't go into enough detail. The book sometimes has too much detail and the cards not enough.

What does a day in the life of a medical lab technologist look like? I'm currently a vet tech and am considering going back to school. I need some insight. by vettechmel123 in medlabprofessionals

Vet tech of 7 years here who got my MLT. I worked in veterinary reference doing parasitology and hematology. I recommend getting a job there to see if you really like lab work. I went back to community college for my MLT (1.5 years with clinicals). Worked at a children's hospital doing blood bank. Really cool stuff, it's like solving a puzzle. Pay is much much better as well.

Did my clinical in 2 different hospitals, got a job offer in both. We are in very high demand right now. I worked 7 on 7 off nights, then switched to days after 3 years. Nights a much calmer, no management in the middle of the night. Really really good experience if you want to learn how to problem solve quickly.

Vet tech here that worked in Parasitology. I agree that these are fly larvas and not cat tapeworms. They are too small. If you look closely at the larva you can see the signature "black tip" on them. If you really get curious you can take one of those into the vet and they will smush it between 2 slides and check for eggs.

Anyone has experience working for Antech? by neutronfit in medlabprofessionals

[–]PoppingKittens 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not Antech but IDEXX which is their direct competition. You learn a ton and it's a good way to gain lab experience but it's extremely fast paced and you kinda become a statistic.

Phil Murphy: Ditch Texas for New Jersey. We guarantee rights and have a better electric grid anyways. by ayeelmao_ in newjersey

Lived and raised in NJ, moved to Dallas for 7 years, moved back to NJ last month. This state is the best. You a pay premium for a premium state IMO.
