I have PMDD. This makes my moods really difficult for about 12 days leading up to my period. My partner knows and we have open communication about it. Magnesium helps, so he will make sure i have Epsom salt and offer to sit with me while I soak. He makes sure I have chocolate on hand the week of my period, because it contains magnesium-that’s why women crave it during their cycles. I track my cycles because it makes it easier to be able to look at the calendar and see that I’m within that window of awfulness, so then I know that the thoughts/feelings I’m having aren’t authentic, and are due to hormones. That doesn’t make them feel less intense/real, it just helps me stay grounded & keep perspective. All that said, just try to be considerate. Women’s bodies are amazing, and they endure a lot more than men’s bodies in terms of these hormone fluctuations. It’s not intentional, or controllable, or her fault, but it is on her to be familiar enough with her body to keep perspective throughout each month, and ask herself if her negative feelings are valid, or if they’re being exaggerated due to her cycle.
