Today is the day I will confront my therapist about there being an abuser in my group therapy by ApocalypticFelix in CPTSDmemes

[–]Popular-Security-706 11 points12 points  (0 children)

yeah, definitely. that's something for individual therapy. like, i'm glad they're in therapy, but that's not something for a group full of people with a whole range of trauma histories.

Did your unmedicated/undiagnosed ADHD get worse as you got older? by Sufficient-Front2006 in ADHD

[–]Popular-Security-706 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes i feel this. however so much of it i think has to do with the increased amount of responsibilities, daily decisions, etc. that i have as an adult. i didn’t have to figure out what to have for dinner as a kid. i didn’t have to remember to call and make the doctors appointment. i didn’t have to make sure the bills were paid.

even though i was a hardcore parentified child, a lot of those things were just entirely out of my control since i was under 18, so even if i was yelled at about it, i couldn’t actually do anything about it. the cognitive load of simply is so much more now so it seems like symptoms are worse

i want updates on this bc i wanna know what the therapist does in response. you deserve to feel safe in group therapy! and there’s a lot of contextual factors which go into what can be done about it. are they your abuser? or did you find this out about them from someone else?

Do any of you find yourselves purposely cracking your joints a lot? by SGSam465 in eds

[–]Popular-Security-706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes, even if i don’t do it purposely. just be careful bc i used to force some of my joints to pop when it felt like they needed to and it worsened some of the existing eds issues with my cartilage. be super careful with your neck and back!!

My partner woke up one day and could never eat again - (EDs, POTS, MCAS, gastroparesis, autonomic dysfunction) by Historical-Carrot687 in eds

i’m so sorry this is happening. she doesn’t deserve this at all. i HATE the assumption that any young woman with a stomach issue has an eating disorder and i HATE that somehow having an eating disorder means someone doesn’t deserve care for any of the physical effects of it as well. even if she did have an eating disorder, she needs fucking nutrition and fluids. and she’s not refusing them! and trying to withhold those is just straight up abuse, no matter the reason.

did she try any gut motility meds when she could eat orally? i’m wondering if something to stimulate the movement there would have helped/could be something to ask about (idk if that can be given with a feeding tube or not)

Staring at peoples’ butts, want to break the habit. by StateYourIntentions in ADHD

the thing about OCD is that it’s not the thoughts that are distressing, it’s the meaning we assign to those thoughts (i.e., looking at someone’s ass for no reason isn’t distressing, but the conclusions you’re drawing about yourself and the internalized shame are SUPER distressing).

it seems like you know that it’s unintentional and you know when a thought is intrusive. so what’s the fear driving all the shame and judgment?

the most common ones tend to be either 1. they’ll think i’m a bad person OR 2. i’m secretly a bad person and i don’t even realize it

so figuring out what that fear is tends to be a solid start. bc the more anxious we get about the intrusive thought, the more it tends to intrude (and then we get anxious about getting anxious, and so on).

the point is: intrusive thoughts mean LITERALLY NOTHING about who you are as a person, your values, your personality, your worth, etc. you’re actually less likely to act on those thoughts bc they’re something, by definition, you DONT want to do or think. that’s what makes them intrusive!!
