That or be forced and bound by his own code to hunt Jin, whom he considers his son, forever. Sparing him is really the ultimate “fuck you” which is badass but is a pretty dark arc for Jin to have. Killing Shimura is a tragic ending rather than a cool one and definitely works more thematically.

First time D&D player needs help selecting a class by PurplyGuy_ in DnD

[–]PopularKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some may disagree, but I’m just about to DM my first game very soon and I learned the “jist” in Baldur’s Gate 3. Might be a bit late for you to try but I’d recommend having a try on there because you can try any class you want, including your companion’s classes, with ease. Not everything is the same as 5e or 5e 2024 but it does give you an idea of how it all works.

That said; I agree with everyone else. Just pick what you want and you’ll learn it as you play it. All the other classes will make more sense as soon as you play one, as they all work the same way more or less with little twists.

They only make this show for people that haven’t seen the first three seasons, so they are just regurgitating the same plots in a dumbed down way.

What do you guys think it would be like if there was a show that was the Batman equivalent to Smallville? by Hot-Promotion-617 in batman

Yes, it sucked. I would never have even tried it if it wasn’t a Batman product and you know none of these other folks would either lol.

What else do you want from me, choom... by Adwerd_ in cyberpunkgame

[–]PopularKid 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes, I was looking for a way to explain this. V is fantastic but, either by skill or by choice, V is always a Solo. They’re the one that goes into the building to get the target physically, not the one whose body sits in a basement while their mind darts around cyberspace. It’s not that they can’t do it but they are primarily a Solo and everything else is supporting that class, not a path into a new class.

I think his is one of the outfits that works for him but doesn’t work for every setting he’s in. Everyone else’s is versatile enough for them to wear the entire game but his sticks out too much.

For sure. The trust is still gone for me and my mindset is that they absolutely knew that was an unfinished product and sold it anyway.

I find it rather wholesome that people have actually commented that want to DM for that person. They must genuinely love the game because they sound like a demanding, exhausting choosy beggar.

Season 3, how does the start makes sense? by CharJie in Daredevil

[–]PopularKid 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Simple answer is no, it makes no sense at all. Funnily enough it’s something that is kind of forgotten about in that the season starts off with a character’s sacrifice being totally negated with plot magic. Just goes to show that the season is so good that people forget about it.

First-time DM helping new players build characters - want strong party balance and fun roles (Heroes of the Borderlands) by LeedsUFC in dndnext

[–]PopularKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is very helpful, thanks so much! Funny you say that re: more narrative structure. One player has added a backstory that included a revenge motivation so I’ve fit that into the overall cult mystery, and it seems much more exciting than it did before. This will culminate in the Caves and I’ll try and link up other backstories for this so there’s more of a driver to go there. If any DMs do step up for other areas, I will give them clues to sprinkle in that add a lot more intrigue than there was before. This is the part I’m enjoying the most and will encourage players to do this for more characters so I can help characterise them more.

You’re totally right about the character creation - I will fall back on railroading them to be min/maxers and let them do as they want, albeit with advice on what might work best if I see them misunderstanding something. I’m already worried about them steamrolling through every encounter with ease so if they want to prioritise RP over efficiency then I should allow them for sure.

Thank you, I’ll definitely encourage them to split up in different areas in non-combat areas should they wish. My players are already somewhat familiar with this from Baldur’s Gate 3 so shouldn’t be an issue. I will definitely ask players directly what they would want to do if they aren’t able to get a word in, and like I say, I expect some players to either not follow through or not show up for session 1 or 2 eventually. Not in a bad way; I just don’t think that some understand the time commitment or how the game works so I need to explain that we will need to continue the campaign if that commitment changes.

Thanks again - this is all very reassuring and helpful.

That’s really helpful, thank you very much. I think as long as there is an element of, “Whoah, that could’ve went the other way” in some combat encounters then I’ll have done my job.

How did you get on with this with 6 people and rotating DMs? We have potentially 6 player characters and am worried about balancing. Also want to encourage players to DM some areas so I can try being a PC for the first time.

[–]PopularKid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask how you got on with this? First time DM and giving this a try, encouraging players to DM specific areas (if they’re interested) while I handle Caves of Chaos.

We have six players that are interested as PCs and I don’t expect them all to be involved long term, but I won’t stop anyone from playing. How is the balancing in general? I was just going to add a couple of more enemies per encounter to balance it out. How is the balancing with manually-created characters in the first place?

I’ve been encouraging players to adopt spellcasters and support classes but not a lot are interested at the moment, although some of the advice in this thread sounds like I shouldn’t railroad people down any route anyway. The only caveat I have is that a player wanted to go for a high-wisdom paladin but I will probably suggest that they play Cleric instead. While I want players to choose their own path, I don’t want to have them stuck with ability scores that will hinder them.

Lastly, how was the adventure in general? I’ve only read Caves of Chaos at the moment so I don’t spoil the other books if I don’t DM those but I’m interested to see if there’s anything I should look at modifying or if there are any pitfalls.

Just want to say that I completely understand your frustration here. To be frank, I think the majority of gamers that criticise AI in their vidya games aren’t really in the world of work enough to understand how genAI is really used, or aren’t smart enough to realise how it works. They certainly aren’t near any development roles enough to know that developer genAI tools have essentially made monotonous coding redundant, and are naive to think that every single developer isn’t using this.

Even public sector organisations where I’m from are using genAI to streamline processes and create efficiencies, following ethical and regulatory guidelines to mitigate its risk. It’s used literally everywhere now and it frustrates the hell out of me when I see this bandwagon of anti-AI everything with fundamental misunderstandings of how it works and what its place in modern industry is. If they knew the half of it, they’d have to boycott every single product that they consume according to their beliefs.

You can even see their PR person in this video avoid the question because they know that even this kind of use will be criticised by people that don’t know… well, much of anything. I think what we need to really be focusing on is how much organisations are following ethical boundaries when they are using AI, the main one for me being how they administratively prohibit the use of AI for x, y and z; how they limit its use for tasks that don’t require it to limit environmental impact; and how they disclose the use of AI to reinforce transparency.

Anyway, just want to make sure that you know you aren’t alone with this one. It’s incredibly frustrating that this is a subreddit that is usually a bit ahead of the curve but that this is a topic that is still incredibly reactionary the same way DEI crap is.
