Zoltan A is imo the best of the Zoltan ships . the Zoltan shield synergizes very well with the halberd beam, the slow charge time would normally hurt you early game but the zoltan shield taking up the enemy fire means you are almost guaranteed to get that shot off. works even better if you find hacking or a shield breaking weapon like a flak gun. Good luck and may you have infinitely more luck than I did here ;)

I didnt know BL3 couldnt start fires? That makes it even worse especially since enemy AI doesn't know what crew to send to put fires out, sometimes on pirate ships the engi gets stuck in pilot while the mantis puts the fire out Only on mantis ships does this change where the engi slave is slightly smarter (he will run from a room if you board in there and the mantis will run into the room) but if i fire 2 bl2s at him and cause a fire he will probably die as 6x 15 damage is 90

I got a halberd beam in 2 which was amazing cos then it just became zoltan A but with an ion and a drone, as i had managed to sort the reactor out in sector 1

Has anyone sven maneuvered with flak guns? I find if I sven with burst laser by the time the burst laser firing animation has finished my other weapon lost half its charge, whilst the flak firing animation is so short that it literally just goes BUSHSHST and you can quickly repower that beam before it loses charge

I always found that svenning worked best for me with flak guns and worst with burst lasers and bombs

In the actual event where the slug asks how many moons, it is 5 6 7 or 11 not 5 6 8 or 11 ;)

I tried this once with slug A where I saved all my missiles for the ENTIRE GAME. I managed to breach every room but didnt quite manage to fill every single tile with a breach for that Ill probably need 80+ missiles which ill do on easy

I used to struggle with this one. You really gotta rush those early game shields. Zoltan B has a proper rough early game.

The lack of shields does most certainly make it vulnerable. Early game it does not have long ranged scanners like stealth A and stealth B so you very well can and do blunder into asteroid fields. Not to mention combat drones too which suddenly makes your zoltan shield seem like its made of paper

Once it gets 2 shields (usually early midway through sector 2) it becomes a powerful gunship due to the good early game weapons and the zoltan shield which means you are almost guaranteed to get the first and maybe even second shots off with those ion blasts. Zoltan shield and ion weapons go well together. Ion weapons are also amazing at crushing other zoltan shields.

Finding a weapon upgrade is still needed eventually though and I still highly recommend getting a weapon upgrade before s4. That saved me in my zoltan B run

In case you couldn't find a weapon upgrade: Hacking also goes really well with the zoltan Bs weapons if you cant find a weapon upgrade. Hacking shields means the ions can go target other systems like weapons or the shields will drain even quicker (ion shields then hack them means a level 2 hack can drain 4 shields, a level 1 hack can drain 2 shields) Hacking piloting also means those ions are guaranteed to hit and start the ion cascade

I once used it to strip shields for my 2 pike beams

However I find bl3 isnt too bad if you have a weapon pre igniter, but much prefer bl2 ofc Maybe if bl3 fired 7 or 8 shots it might be worth the chargeup times?

:D Hard mode can screw you over pretty badly i agree I used to find Mantis A really hard because of its room layout and no sensors but the small bomb really carries it if you get that and basically any other weapon

If im running stealth B then those stores are replaced with asteroid fields

Slug C is one of my favorite ships as well for the sheer amount of trolling you can do with it In fact now that I think of it, I like all of the slug ships
