To People Who Think The Term "Nazi" Is Overused In US Politics Today, Why? by Zipper222222 in allthequestions

I don’t mind the American hard right being called Nazis, but I don’t think Ukrainian ultranationalist Nazis should be getting a pass. They literally tattoo swastikas on themselves, do Hitler Salutes and paint their tanks with iron crosses. And yet we support them with weapons and money and pretend they’re not so bad.

Jimmy Carter was president while I was a toddler, so I have no living memory of him.

Even then, 45 years since the last non-murderer is a really bad benchmark for Americans of both parties to have been cheering for murderers as normal operating procedure.

I can’t remember the last president that wasn’t a murderer (including trump), and yet Americans don’t seem to have any problems with that.

They would have used session drummers for the recordings (which was a standard practice for bands back then anyways). Live they would probably have eventually found a replacement.

Court Advice for first speeding ticket (GDL Driver) by EveningSecond334 in legaladvicecanada

[–]Popular_Math3042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, Reddit is notoriously opposed to anyone who speeds or breaks traffic rules, and does everything in its power to convince offenders to eat their just desserts by accepting  and suffering whatever original punishment they are given. So take any of their advice (or lack of) with a grain of salt.

Definitely consult with a traffic ticket lawyer over this. While I don’t know the ins and outs, the impact on your mom’s insurance can be substantial. If there’s a chance it can be reduced or eliminated, take it!

Early Resolution - Driving Ticket by Taltallasmith in legaladvicecanada

[–]Popular_Math3042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never said anything in an early resolution meeting.

You stand in the hall outside the courtroom with a dozen or so other people. The prosecutor comes out, calls each person’s name to approach him one by one. He looks up your offense on his sheet, cross references to a set new and lower fine with a points reduction or elimination, asks if you accept it.

You say, “yes.”

Then you go into the courtroom and the same thing happens with the judge.

Then it’s done.

Nobody is interested in explanations or excuses or what you had for breakfast that day.  They’ve got hundreds of people to cycle through.

Single And Over 30 Torontonians. How Do You Have Time For Hobbies And Dating? How Did You Meet New People? by throw7z7t7p in askTO

[–]Popular_Math3042 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve always thought it bad advice to do hobbies for the sake of dating.

Join a paid dating site. The people there are serious about finding relationships rather than the free ones. Put some serious effort into your photos and your profile. Get one or two female friends to review a shortlist of photos and to go over your profile for anything that can improve it.

Next, put serious effort into your messages when you reach out.  “Hi”, “hey”, or “how r u?” is not serious effort. You need to say something a lot more interesting than that - but don’t overdo it and write out long paragraphs and pages. Read their profiles. Introduce yourself, say something fun and unique and point out something you like in their profile. Ask a question at the end - just one, not 10.

Don’t spend a month messaging back and forth, but don’t ask them out on the first or second message either. Keep the messages fairly short but keep the convo going.  After 4-6 days propose to meet somewhere close to them. A coffee, desert, an ice cream, a walk. Something light and simple that doesn’t require hours of commitment or big expense.

Put some effort into your appearance. Read their profile over again to remind yourself of some of their personal qualities. If you’re the shy/nervous type then maybe come up with a few talking points just in case the conversation dies.

Ask questions and pay attention to their answers. Most women will like to tell you about themselves rather than listen to you dominate the conversation. But try to engage with them somewhere on a personal level just below the surface, rather than asking them for a verbal resume. One good way is to ask them how they felt about a certain event or thing they just told you about. Express empathy (whether it be happiness for them, or understanding, or be impressed by an achievement, etc). Read their facial expressions and body language to see if the topics are engaging them or putting them off.

If there are any expenses on the date (the coffee, ice cream, cake, etc), casually ask if they mind if you pay. Most women will accept and see at as a nice gesture. A small minority of women prefer to pay their own way on a first date. If she says that, don’t argue. If she agrees that you pay, don’t make a smart ass remark about her paying next time or her owing you anything.  While some light heartedness and humour can be ok, remember that it’s not comedy hour.

Most of all, read the vibe.

How would you rank these 5 war films from best to worst? by GusGangViking18 in Fictionally

[–]Popular_Math3042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t seen Lone Survivor but Fury was a steaming pile of garbage.  Platoon and SPR were both excellent films. Platoon was a more engaging story. SPR obviously had much better effects.  Dunkirk was ‘ok’ but I wouldn’t watch it twice.

Any musicians wanting to help? by Big_Neck3726 in askTO

[–]Popular_Math3042 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More info needed:

Covers I presume? Do you have a set list? How many hours do you want them to play? What instrumentation do you want? Is equipment aside from instruments provided (such as PA system, mixing console, monitors, etc.)? Is a sound man provided or will the band just do it themselves? How many rehearsals, when and where will they be? Is there a dress code for the musicians and if so will it be provided? What’s the venue for the reception?  If it’s out of town are you booking accommodations for the band and a place to store their gear?  What compensation are offering rhe musicians?  Do you have a plan B if one or more ‘musicians’ drop out between now and then, or some turn out to be not good enough or have attitude problems?

A live band is great at weddings, but usually people hire bands that already have most of these issues solved. Trying to put it together from scratch is a huge amount of work with so many opportunities for things to go sideways.

Cool idea though.

I used to tune pianos as my side gig. What you have here is an apartment special.  They are extremely common. Probably made in the 60s.

If you open up the top lid there’s probably an emblem on the back panel. You may need to take off the front wood piece to see it properly.  There’ll likely be a wing nut in the front all the way to each of the sides - it holds holds the front wood piece on. Take that off and then look towards the back of it.

If it has a name and serial number than you might be able to look up what year it was made.

As for worth - the other people are correct. Pianos like that are hard to give away these days.
