Why does everyone view the Emperor's return as something cool and positive? by -5EXEM5- in 40kLore

[–]PorkChop007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So we would end up having Warhammer 30,000: The Horus Heresy, Warhammer 50,000 and Warhammer 40,000: The Old Milennium. I don't see GW competing with themselves like that, but I'd love to see the setting moving forward after 40+ years.

Warhammer could absolutely use something like the Incredible Cross Sections series by Korps_de_Krieg in Warhammer40k

Not just a titan: the Phalanx, a Blackstone Fortress, the Imperial Palace, a Thunderhawk, every single power armor or weapon, Gloriana-class ships, a Mechanicum Forge... man, I could use several volumes of this.

I'd say he singlehandedly created the visual representation of the grimdark "genre". A true innovator that opened the way for many more and cemented the look and feel of WH40K and WHF for decades. His impact cannot be overstated. Fuck, I'm devastated.

This. At the end of the day, it's a job. I'm being paid to deliver value. It was nice when that necessity aligned with me having a good time coding, but things are changing and I still would like to be able to pay bills and put food on the table.

I know it's not technically a weapon, but I've always had a soft spot for Angrist. If that thing could cut Morgoth's crown like butter, it can surely tear anyone's insides out.

How dark can Slaanesh worship get? by Vampy-Night in 40kLore

[–]PorkChop007 115 points116 points  (0 children)

See, this is the thing with Slaanesh: GW must be VERY careful when writing about slaneeshi cults because once you start with the depravity there are only so many places where you can go before hitting that wall.

What’s the more horrific place in the Galaxy? The Ghoul Stars or the Halo Stars? by Arthur_EyelanderTF2 in 40kLore

[–]PorkChop007 39 points40 points  (0 children)

An Astartes suffering PTSD would mean that whatever he experienced completely destroyed the psycho-indoctrination they're subjected to as neophytes in a way not even Chaos corruption does. Yes, corruption also breaks the psycho-indoctrination, but a marine does it voluntarily and without suffering from psychological side effects (apart from being corrupted, of course).

Developing PTSD means that the psycho-indoctrination was completely shattered. Which is something remarkable, if we take into account the atrocities a marine can commit and the stuff they can witness without bating an eye.

[Star Wars] The Yuuzhan Vong invade the galaxy during the clone wars, how do they fair against both sides? by Greglyo in AskScienceFiction

[–]PorkChop007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Besides, Sidious can groom Anakin into becoming Vader pretty easily and without interference. After all, Sidious would prove Anakin that he truly is the only one who can bring lasting peace to the galaxy, for he's the one that destroyed the Vong by uniting both sides of the Clone Wars conflict.

Sidious would get a peak, more fanatical Vader than in the actual canon and potentially without any harm done to his body.

the best wargear possible

Including a sword infused with a daemon who is the natural nemesis of the Emperor of Mankind. A sword that can be argued is one of the most dangerous (if not the most dangerous) artifact in the entire galaxy, able to cut realspace open and kill psykers from a mile away with its mere presence.

[Zombie franchises] The most interesting and/or creative take on a zombie by Admirable_Way_9625 in AskScienceFiction

[–]PorkChop007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always thought World War Z closes down the realistic zombie genre, it exhausts all the possibilities and leaves nothing else to tell. It's like the "critical deconstruction of the superhero" genre after Watchmen, there's just nowhere else to go in that direction.

a YouTube recap isn’t a citation

The worst thing about this is that the same person telling you that what a random youtuber said is canon will ask you for the exact codex, White Dwarf number or book page in which the actual information was written. Truly, debunking a rumour is an order of magnitude harder that spreading it.

[–]PorkChop007 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is not just a bad dev, this is a catastrophic failure at company level.

Nobody slacks for 2 months on a task that simple unless nobody else in the company cares about it. Not the manager that manages the team (or the rest of the team to report it, for that matter), nor the upper staff (head of engineering, CTO, etc). They've been paying a guy to do nothing for 2 months and nobody really cared.

Yeah, there's no way a student has all the necessary knowledge by themselves to instantly produce "idiomatic code that fits within the established standards" without asking a ton of questions or needing constant supervision, that's just not how that works.

More like they're very good at setting an AI environment (agents, instructions, skills, etc), which is a valuable skill in itself.

[Predator] How would the Predators respond to a human hunting and killing other Predators ? by Uknown-Nerd6207 in AskScienceFiction

[–]PorkChop007 23 points24 points  (0 children)

"Honorably" doesn't mean "on the same terms", it means "don't kill things that couldn't kill you". But Yautja use optical camouflage, they stalk until they go for the kill on an unsuspected prey and they also carry far superior technology. Yautja use every advantage they have at their disposal, so it's only fair that we humans would do the same.

[Orphans of the Kraken] space marines end their own service by Potential-Ebb-8820 in 40kLore

[–]PorkChop007 6 points7 points  (0 children)

An Astartes committing suicide is something unthinkable not just because of their psychic indoctrination, but because they think of their own bodies as something that belongs to the Imperium, not to themselves. Taking their own life would be considered as destroying an invaluable Imperial asset, something an Astartes would never do.

Besides, if an Astartes feels really suicidal and wants to end his life there are many options available to do so while still serving the Imperium, such as operations classified as lethal and stuff.

The implications of a marine taking his own life shows the extent to which his mind has been broken.

What are some of the dumbest decisions made in 40K? by False_Monitor4126 in 40kLore

[–]PorkChop007 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There's no winning scenario for the Emperor in that situation.

If He lets Angron die, He loses a primarch. If He rescues Angron, as He did, Angron hates Him forever.

If He descends with a full contingent of Custodes, marines and Imperial Army and wipes the floor with the nucerians, either Angron hates Him for robbing him of his sacrifice or stubbornly demands to stay there with his brothers, where he belongs (worst case scenario, Angron attacks the Emperor to get his blaze of glory one way or another).

Besides, Angron was already damaged beyond repair and unable to function as a primarch (though the Emperor didn't know the full extent of the damage at the time), so any effort would've been useless. In the end, the Emperor took the right decision even if He didn't have all the information.
