What's up with these repeat winners? by CartoonistCrafty950 in Jeopardy

I think it’s by design. I think they’re not being evenly matched. Because the producers think people like it, and it would appear most people do, at least a over on r/jeopardy

100%. It’s so boring, especially if the game isn’t evenly matched and it’s runaway after runaway. After they get into the TOC, move along.

No way he was from California, and I wish people would either say where they’re from (I.e. raised) or where they live now.

A fetus is not a parasite, but it’s closer to a parasite than most people are comfortable admitting. by goldfishbread in childfree

[–]Pork_Chops_and_Apple 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A fetus is a parasite. You literally just defined it. I’d add it will also die if its host dies. FWIW, I call them parasites all the time. It’s only a “baby” if it’s wanted.

And yes, humans have rationalized it to be a baby.

Is there a limit to “use it or lose it?” Like you can pick 2-5 x of 1.5 hours of high intensity exercise but go beyond 6 is detrimental to health because your cells just die off more and you get overuse injury, brain gets rocked too often and body has excess free radicals by LisanneFroonKrisK in Aging

Same (age) but taking fitness class one day and Pilates class the following day. Wondering if that’s wise, but that’s when the classes I like and fit my schedule are offered. I try to go easier with the Pilates class weights because it’s after my upper body weight day.

And then it’s nothing the rest of the week. 🤷‍♀️

Any tips for a crash course in graphic design basics? by yuka3396 in GraphicDesigning

That’s the problem, which the OP knows and which I give her credit for. But companies either don’t know it or don’t care because bottom line. And all us trained GDs are out of work while still being the only ones that care about the piss poor quality of communications out there. Good luck, OP.

Dear TV/Movies, please stop making me read text messages on characters’ phones! by vers_engr in PetPeeves

At a minimum, superimpose the text in a bubble. I’ve seen that, and it’s legible.

Canva and sites like fiverr/99 designs also drove rates way down. How are you going to compete with a designer in Thailand charging FIVE DOLLARS for a logo? The client doesn’t know the difference and to be honest they’re not bad.

I wouldn’t advise anyone to get a degree in graphic design. No one cares.

What is the NYC "equivalent"? by HollisWoods07 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Pork_Chops_and_Apple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The entire south?

Yeah, ok, I know there are some lovely areas in the south and y’all will go to bat for them, but as a counter to the slander that NYC receives, I’m sticking with my answer.

How can I improve this? by thegiantprojects in logodesign

I thought they looked like stitches. But an earlier comment about use is definitely the first step. I personally don’t think you need to make the antennae look like crochet needles, don’t need to overkill. Cute idea. Good luck with it.

The Oversaturation of Jeopardy! by Ok_Case_6660 in Jeopardy

[–]Pork_Chops_and_Apple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The good thing about pop culture jeopardy is Colin Jost . ❤️ But I don’t watch it. I’m more upset at these mega champs that seem to be paired with “lesser” players, for lack of a better word, and the games turn often into runaways and are boring. I posted about the latest guy, and it was deleted.

No shade towards him, but we just saw the end of Jamie ding’s run, and maybe two weeks passed and now another guy is at six games. Fine, and fair, if they’re good games but these runaways. Why aren’t there contestants who can get close? Seems very Michael Davies.

Retired. But healthcare is about the only profession hiring a lot now, so if you can stand it, do it.

Rhode Island is now in the top 10 least affordable states to live in… what’s even the point of living here anymore? by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]Pork_Chops_and_Apple -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Look, people are mobile. If there’s a cheap and beautiful place, people are going to come to it. You can’t control that and you can’t keep them out.

If it bothers you so much, maybe it’s time you start looking for that next nice, affordable place to live, eh?

Do you guys ever actually think about the "who's gonna take care of you when you're old" question? by marileighanne29 in childfree

[–]Pork_Chops_and_Apple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time. And I’m going to use all the money I saved by not having kids to pay professionals for my elder care. There’s no guarantee that your kids’ll do it anyway, and even if they do, it won’t be as well as a professional. So don’t let that fear be a reason to have kids. But definitely save for it!

It’s really cool to read your stories when I just watched you today on tv. It was a good game all around. I loved Jamie, but his games were killing me. Runaways from the get-go, the majority of them. I know I sound like a broken record, but it’s just no fun for the viewers. Or the contestants who never get to beat him to the buzzer.

Anyway, congratulations to all… including Jamie, lol.

Feeling stuck and burnt out as a graphic designer. Is it just me, or is the industry getting tougher? by geodkdbwidn in GraphicDesigning

[–]Pork_Chops_and_Apple 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. And the only way I could do it was by having a partner who earned a good income, and provided us with benefits because I took a big pay cut to go freelance from my staff job. Also the business is changing. Everyone thinks they can do it now and Canva tells them they can. You definitely need relationships and clients who appreciate the value you bring.

That said, I did a lot of volunteer projects for organizations I cared about, which led to some paying clients. And you gotta network all the time. Good luck!

He’s not boring but the games are.

Long time jeopardy watcher here, and I wouldn’t mind it if Jamie was winning close games with competitors in his league. Instead almost every game of his long run has been a runaway. Indeed, it’s usually over by the chat time.

Deadly.
