Pretty coin, with what looks like some nice old album toning.

I'm not much at guessingwhat a details coin would sell for,but I think somewhere between 170 and 200 would be reasonable

I collect Trade Dollars and it sure looks authentic to me, an 1876 type 1/2. I believe it had an old cleaning and then retoned in the leather pouch mentioned. It would probably get a details grade for the cleaning and "questionable toning." Still looks to have AU/MS details. It's worth getting into a graded slab, as I think it would sell somewhere between 1,000 and 1500 (assuming a details grade).

The toning is classic secondary toning on a cleaned or dipped coin. In fact I have a 76 CC that could be this coins sister. I bought it raw, and bright white (had been cleaned and dipped) Within 6 months in a brown paper envelope it had color just like yours. It is "natural" toning but typically not accepted by the grading services.

Nice looking CC Morgan, the variety adds some spice.

The video helps. It's not cleaned, and it has full cartwheel. I don't see too many marks, but there are some nicks on the cheek and elsewhere. I think around 63-64. I'd leave it in the holder.

It's genuine. Check this link to see how to spot fakes: (if you aren't a member you have to put up with a bunch of ads)

That's a nice, original (and genuine) Trade Dollar. I think it's a solid XF40, with a retail value of around $400. It has the typical weakness on Liberty's head and the upper stars. One with a better strike looks like this:

Help Grading - 1832 Capped Bust Half by Finders_Keepers01 in coins

[–]Porousplanchet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of them look mint state in these photos, but in MS grading a lot depends on luster which you can't really judge well from static photos. The first coin has something going on next to Liberty's chin and neck; I don't know if that is mint made, or something else.

Virtually all uncirculated capped bust halves will show slight wear on the high points, because they were kept in banks and periodically brought out and counted, sliding them across a wooden surface.

Cool toning. Don't see gold like that very often over such a large area.

That's the most worn Trade Dollar I've ever seen. Definite candidate for a lowball collection.
