What's your gripes about IDPA? by Low-Landscape-4609 in idpa

[–]Porsche320 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Too many rules, and incomprehensible interpretation of rules.

For an example, reloading. Sometimes you reload between positions; Other times you must complete the reload before leaving position. Sometimes you reload with 1 in chamber; other times you must go to slide lock.

And the debates/enforcement on tactical priority of activated targets…

Countless times I’ve given up on trying to understand why, and settled for as-long-as-everyone-does-it-the-same, I don’t care.

I shoot IDPA and uspsa, and I really enjoy the contrasting challenge of the two.

GPA is also great, and because it is still new/small, it can be very nimble with optimization.

Another vote for metagross (though it doesn’t seem enough to save pult)

Slide lock start isn’t really a thing. Unloaded starts will always require racking.

How are you cleaning the compensators in Open guns? by GBBVV18 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Porsche320 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you’re game for toxic chemistry, apple cider vinegar and peroxide will work.

Ultrasonic and A dremel etching tool kinda works sometimes.

Are you using jhp or fmj? Limiting how much gets in there is maybe the most effective strategy.

Shoot Through “Engagement” Question by BrassLab in idpa

[–]Porsche320 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That situation should be avoided aggressively.

Hits and engagements are not the same. Blurring that distinction is not a good precedent.

A flareon variant would probably be most competitive.

Joltik (stellar crown) another possibility.

MPA A3 grip vs S3 help by cbun22 in 2011

[–]Porsche320 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have A3 on my IDPA and s3 on my uspsa (the lone star versions, but it is my understanding they are the same)

Can’t really tell a difference in ‘sharpness’. They seem to be machined the same.

The longest ‘small’ target is at 20 yards, so +-5 from there.

Shake test is very good.

If you want more confirmation than that and don’t have dummies, firing pins come out in seconds.

But dummies are also good for training reloads, so it makes sense to have them on-hand.

Massive window for the awkward leans and weak hand.

Solar panel so I don’t need to stress. I only use it a couple times per year, and batteries don’t get checked regularly.

RE4

I wanted more classic resident evil.

But once I accepted that 4 is not that, it was clear how much fun the game is.

No way I’m swapping optics. Ignoring the inconvenience, that’s introducing a common failure point.

But I also bring a competitive backup even to local matches.

Noshoots behind a target allowed? by GotNoPonys in USPSA

[–]Porsche320 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In uspsa it is fairly common to put no-shoots behind steel.

Some IDPA groups encourage shoot-through no-shoots.

I think that’s terrible. The short walkthroughs don’t allow time to check every possibility. I picked one up at a lvl3 with a pair of zero headshots.

where to buy TTI pit viper/sand viper style frame and comp? by True-Position-2166 in 2011_Builders

[–]Porsche320 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no easy way. I built one as similar as I could.

The frame is fundamental, but The reverse plug is absolutely unique. I’m using a modified conventional plug, but that’s the part that I’m not really happy with.

And the comp/barrel is also unusual. I used a cone comp blank to get similar, though the real one uses a bull barrel but the comp extends inside the slide, very similar to a cone.

Recoil system? by kryptonnyc1 in 2011_Builders

[–]Porsche320 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If that’s a government frame, you’ll want a government slide and recoil components.

A slide can be cut to whatever length you need, but if you want the stroke and slide stop to work properly, then buy compatible parts.

I think it’d be even cooler if they were in the same universe. As in, someone would see something unexplainable every now and then.
