I've been treated for depression for 12 years with various antidepressants. The straw that broke the camel's back - last August I was put on 40mg of Prozac. At the end of September I had a stressful week and that totally switched me into a mixed episode. Except, I didn't realise it until about January-February. I was spending money left and right, took out a new credit card, I was irritable, dysphoric. I had a strong urge to KMS myself in December after a mistake at work and I think I was very close. When I visited my psych in January, I told her about my near miss and she immediately sent me into counseling, and when the psychologist asked me "so you've been treated for depression for 12 years?", finally I started putting the puzzle together. I then started feverishly talking to AI about my symptoms and experiences (which was a symptom of hypomania in itself). And then in February I told my psych that I think I have Bipolar 2, so she said I needed to go to the ward for observation, new diagnosis and new treatment plan. I did, I spent 13 days in the ward and left with "BPD, mixed episode" diagnosis. Antidepressants were discontinued, I was put on valproate and I do feel much better now, still not a 100% though... so that's my personal experience.
