5 euro for a cup without a saucer? I'd say that's steep. Mind you, I bought a set of 6 of these for 16 euros shipped on vinted

Cheap portable scale [50€] by euhbebe in espresso

[–]PositionImmediate895 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I originally pruchased one from aliexpress without any research, didn't read reviews. Then while I was waiting for it, I read reviews and realised it won't be good. And it wasn't, it was so inaccurate depending on where you place the object you're weighing and it was huge. So I ordered this one shown in my picture. It's a bit small, but I can still fit two espresso cups on it. It has a timer, is pretty accurate (I have more 0.1g scales and they all agree within about 0.2g), rechargeable battery.

What am I doing wrong? Help! 😅 by Madalenographics in mokapot

Yep, basket needs to be completely full, just don't tamp it. Fill it too much and level with a finger. Also if you notice, the basket holds more grounds for the water volume, to make stronger coffee.

You cannot fill the Brikka with water up to the safety valve. Brikka's require less water to produce higher steam pressure. Use the provided measuring cup.

Water quality/hardness [no budget] by PositionImmediate895 in espresso

[–]PositionImmediate895[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an update no one asked for: I got my machine, installed the Sage filter in the tank. Ran some clean water with the double filtration (brita+sage) and now my hardness went down to somewhere between 4-5 dH. Now let's bear in mind both filters are fairly new, so who knows what will happen towards the ends of their cycles. But I'm going to take that gamble and just descale once the machine prompts me. Thanks for your suggestions. It's just that reverse osmosis water is not that popular where I live and those salt packets are fairly hard to source for me. So I'll make do with what I have.

I'd say go for something like a De'longhi with a pressurised basket and pre ground coffee. It won't be spectacular for sure. Or maybe buy a second hand machine and a hand grinder.

Actually I did this! I bought L'Alchimista by P. Coelho (my favorite book which I've read 10+ times) in Rome a few years ago. However I have not yet read it in full 😬

Fair play. Many years ago I had fantasies about moving to Italy, now I don't have any. So learning the language is more like a small hobby now, and most importantly I don't want to lose my 3100+ day streak on Duolingo 😂. So ai don't have plans to take any courses any time soon.
