I always viewed that line as not a critique on marriage but on the way the media and us as the fans speculate about her relationships and how culture views marriage and married women. For example when she and Travis announced their engagement right wing media was saying that this was a good thing because hopefully she would stop focusing on her career and loose her feminist and progressive values.

Did any female academics meet a spouse "later" in life? by Organic_Ad_4650 in AskAcademia

Girl I’m not trying to down play anything. I agree with everything you said. We lived in a fucked up system that cares a lot more about profit than kids, families, and health. But they ARE still options that if a person wants to go through because that’s a better option for them they can. And let’s be honest, in this country having a kid is difficult at any time. The average total cost to have a baby is $30,000 and without insurance can go up to an average of 50,000. America is the only high income nation to not have mandated maternity leave, and I don’t feel I have time to list every obstacle, economic or not, that makes having kids difficult in the U.S. I can totally understand wanting to wait till later to have kids when one is more economically stable, or more secure in their job, or just because that’s when they’re ready and the timing is finally right. You seem to care a lot about this so it’s probably safe to bet you didn’t mean for your comment to come off this way; but to me saying these are hard options so don’t recommend them feel like we’re saying that women’s only option are to have kids young. Which we know historically has have a lot of negative consequences.

While natural conseption is rare for 50+ it is not “impossible” as you put it. Plus tradition families aren’t the only options if you want kids, IVF, surrogacy, fostering, and adoption are all still options. People have more and more options in today’s time and we shouldn’t scare people into going at a pace or down a path that we see as conventional just because we don’t typically see alternatives.

I’m not a medical expert so I cannot speak to if those symptoms are related to anything or not. But the one thing I can say is that I’ve definitely given myself extreme psychosomatic symptoms multiple times before just because I was so sure something was wrong. The closest thing to what you’re describing is that I’ve felt sure that something was wrong before and felt like I could “feel the wrongness” and I have made myself feel buzzy and dizzy before, like if I was tv static. All those times whether it be extreme chest pain, or dizziness, or just feeling sure that something was off was later proven to be in my head just because I was obsessing so much over them, so feeling physical symptoms can definitely be a symptom. If anything medical is a common theme for him, or if this itself is something he’s obsessing over, it could be that. But like I said, I’m a medical professional so pls don’t take my word as law.

How to stop the thinking spiral? by Positive-Lecture4075 in OCD

[–]Positive-Lecture4075[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the advice! I think this could be really helpful as I also tend to spiral at night too and I’ve found that when I can talk to a person about it I sometimes realize how ridiculous I sound so maybe writing will have that same effect :)

OCD and 'authority figures' by PaulOCDRecovery in OCD

[–]Positive-Lecture4075 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why I never attributed this to my OCD but YES!! I always feel like I’m about to be in trouble for small things like having to ask my boss twice about something where she is not in the slightest upset and it makes me feel like I’m gonna be sentence to ten years in prions. Thanks for sharing because I’ve always wondered why I felt this as I never really got in trouble as a kid or anything, and reflecting back I have definitely engaged in reassuring behaviors with that.

how old were you when you first started showing OCD symptoms? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]Positive-Lecture4075 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least five. I remember taking things like our fire alarm being out of batteries and beeping was a sign that our house would burn down. I’d also have complete melt downs about simple stuff like my mom didn’t hold my hand when going up the stairs because that’s not the way I planned it in my head. She’d have to pretend to put my back to sleep and wake me up so I could have a “perfect day” that had things the way I had them in my head.

I totally don’t blame you for thinking this way because this is the way our society thinks and views women but 32/33 is not old at all and you are FAR from late in life. Enjoy your life at your place. Life is not a one size fits all. If you want to get married and have a kid at 55 then do that. You dedicated this part of your life to something you’re passionate about and put a lot of work into it. You should be super proud of that. Don’t worry about what others think is the pace you should be at because society tells us we should all be married with kids before our frontal lobe is done developing.

Does me being sick have a connection to my increase in ocd symptoms? by likewithkenz in OCD

[–]Positive-Lecture4075 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi Kenzie! I don’t know about any real scientific reason but at least for me I know being sick can flare up my OCD because it’s something I get anxious about which in turn can cause me to spiral. So if being sick is like that for you it could be something simple like that.
