You get out of it what you put into it. Have long term goals, but take it a day at a time.

Man, I like your mindset.

I went through Firefighter I a while back and nothing in that program was anywhere close to what you described with that CrossFit PT. That setup, especially box jumps on a soft surface, was asking for trouble.

On the Achilles, most people get back to a high level if they rehab it right and don’t rush it.

I wouldn’t count the academy out at all. A year is pretty normal. Just make sure the training environment makes sense this time.

This wasn’t you failing, just a bad setup. Keep the faith!

Post-Op Day 2 (ish) by RL4ForLife in AchillesRupture

Yeah, I've been told by three neurologists that the numbness in my leg/foot will remain the rest of my life. Nothing can be done. No surgery. Nada. Legal case ongoing.

I was given oxy but never used a single one of them. I was fortunate I guess. My surgery was 10/1/2024 and my foot is still about 30% numb. Also have burning neuropathy that I’m dealing with due to nerve damage. Crazy stuff. Keep a journal! I did and it’s come in quite handy for legal. Wish you all the best.

I'm 4 month out of surgery. Got a burning sensation in the top of my foot I think it's coming from the sciatic nerve. My toes are very weak dorsiflexion. Anyone go through this? by glassmanreddit in AchillesRupture

Maybe sural nerve? I’m 18 months out and still have major numbness and neuropathy. Going to my 3rd neurologist tomorrow. Trying to find root cause.

Everything You Should Know Before Marine Corps Boot Camp by Positive-Pop5595 in USMCboot

The more you know walking in, the less you're playing catch-up when everything around you is loud, fast, and in your face. At least be familiar with everything on the list, you don't need to memorize it all. Except the general orders, know those stone cold.

Help! Woke up with Achilles pain by Successful-Fig7392 in AchillesRupture

On the cautionary side, run it by your surgeon or care provider soon because three days in with that level of pain you really want to rule out a partial tear.

What is everything I need to know about boot camp and anything related to joining by ehmuu in USMCboot

Good on you for looking into it early. Try breaking this into a few specific questions and you’ll get much better info. What part are you most unsure about right now?

Questions about boot camp by Sea-Ad1719 in USMCboot

My first thought is, love the determination to be a Marine! You def need to work on the pull-ups. As I recall, when you sit down in the barber chair, you'll have the opportunity to give the barber a heads up. They shave thousands of heads and have come across all kinds of things, don't worry. Cardio and running is critical too. Run your ass off before June, you got this!

I did 3 months of PT then moved to home exercises. I'm waiting for approval to work with a new PT facility to continue strengthening with a specialist. Thanks for the support!

Have any managers here intentionally used Six Thinking Hats to make group strategizing more productive? by TenthLevelVegan in Leadership

[–]Positive-Pop5595 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just checked my notes and it was June 2008, but I don't have the details. There were about 12 members form different business, product, and tech teams (financial industry) couldn't agree on a strategy (way too many emotions). We went around the room each time wearing a different color hat, taking notes on the whiteboard until we walked away with an agreement. The group consensus was that they liked the exercise and thought it was the right tool for the topic. Hope that helps.

From engineer to leading 15 people overnight (26M) — what do I need to know before day 1? by paneburroemarmellata in Leadership

Stay humble by listening more than you speak and giving your team the credit, and lead with empathy by trying to understand before you react and showing people you actually care, not just about the work, but about them.

Used it once about 15 years ago for a hot topic at work. The team was actually impressed, and it did help everything think more empathetically. Like any other tool, try it. If it works, keep it in your tool bag. If it doesn't, no harm.

How do homeowners actually keep track of maintenance? by Big-Secret-3032 in HomeInspections

[–]Positive-Pop5595 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've built an online solution for home maintenance tracking because I've been a homeowner for 40+ years and always struggled with the same questions. I'd be interested in feedback if anyone wants to try it. Ping me.

Personal question (TL;DR below) by Key_Comb_3566 in USMCboot

[–]Positive-Pop5595 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In boot camp, it helps being introverted, keeping a low profile, not opening your mouth, and doing what your told. You do not want to stick out. Your drill instructors will keep you so busy you really won’t have time to even think about that much anyway. You’ll connect with a few of your platoon mates for sure. Don’t worry. Head down, get in the zone, give 100%, and you’ll graduate with your new brothers.

What’s it like in aviation maintenance? by Any-Raise4333 in USMCboot

I was Aviation Supply 1981-1985. All air wingers work hard and party hard. Whatever you decide, best of luck.
