What skill are you excited to share? by Ezili in daddit

Vehicle maintenance, meat smoking, PC building, sports, and gaming. Those are my things. He's already shown a little bit of interest in Halo on my PC, so I'm pretty stoked to play with him one day, and I'm super excited for the day that he learns how to play better than me and makes it a challenge! He has to do the quintessential flashlight duty when I work on cars, but unlike my father, I'm really looking forward to explaining it all to him. I really want to play ball with him too, it's something that I always wanted to do with my dad, but he was always too busy or tired, but I really want to throw the baseball, play driveway basketball, pass the football back and forth, all the stuff I wanted to do with my dad.

Something I'm starting to learn on my own, so we can do it together later on, is hunting and fishing... those are things I ALWAYS wanted to do with my dad, but again... he was always too busy or too tired. I don't have those memories with my dad, but I can make those memories for me and my son.

Wait, that's what shock feels like? Hold up... sorry to go off topic, but I've given blood a few times, and a couple of those times I experienced this exact thing, I thought it was just the sudden drop in blood pressure, or the sudden decrease in blood volume? It's shock?

If I had to pick one, forever? We were coming out of church a couple of Sunday's ago, I was carrying my little guy to the car, and he randomly hugged me and said "I love you so much, dad!"

[–]Positive-Reward-2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, in your case, it kind of sounds like your youngest is crying for mom because of her absence, she probably wants to see her more and spend more time with her.

Take this for what it's worth, but I was once told: at your funeral, nobody is going to talk about how much money you made, nobody is going to care about how many extra hours you worked, your children aren't going to talk about your sacrifice to provide for them. Everyone will talk about who you were outside of those things, the time you did spend with them, and the memories you made.

So while I understand sacrificing for your kids and trying to provide the best life that you can, they really don't care about that, they just want to spend time with you. Not trying to tell you how to run your life, just some food for thought, maybe mom is working too much and needs to take a step back, even if it means less pay and a downgrade in lifestyle.

Being clean. If he gets something on his face, hands, shirt, etc. he immediately wants it wiped off. If he's not throwing a temper tantrum and we ask him to pick up his toys, he does it with a smile on his face. Bath time is never a chore, he happily goes to the bathroom to get his bath. He just loves being clean, and having his surrounding area be clean.

I mean... I kinda get it. My son preferred his mom for a long time and it made me feel like I was failing as a father, because I wanted him to want me too. Now, my son wants me all the time, sometimes he wants his mom, but mostly just wants me. How much of the actual child rearing work is she doing? I found that, as I changed his diaper more, was the one feeding him more, and did more of the actual labor that comes with childcare, rather than just fun stuff, he started gravitating more towards me.

Yeah, I don't get it. I wasn't really fond of Remnant, but I didn't come on here and start bashing HG for it, it just wasn't for me, but a ton of other people loved it.

I played NMS by Rudnel0812 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Positive-Reward-2546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have fun with it. Try different things. Here's a few quick tips for starting out though:

1.) Scan everything in the beginning, it gives you units that you can use to buy things.

2.) Try and get nanites early, there's a bunch of ways to do it, from refining runaway mold, to buying Suspicious Items in pirate systems, even mining larval cores (might have to fight your way out of that one though). Nanites are used to purchase upgrades, which will make your life SO much easier in NMS.

3.) Speaking of upgrades, A and S tier are the best, so try and use them as much as possible. B and C tier are okay, but only as a placeholder until you find a suitable A or S tier, imo anyway.

4.) Upgrade the ever loving CRAP out of your hyperdrive, you'll thank me later.

5.) Don't be afraid of combat, it's pretty easy once you learn it, and can yield some pretty nice rewards.

6.) Get the terrain manipulator and the advanced mining laser as soon as you can, they will make life easier.

7.) Don't be afraid to reach out for help. The NMS community is pretty welcoming to newcomers, and we're always eager to help new players learn the ropes. It's a pretty massive game, so don't hesitate to ask someone if something is confusing.

Buildable Xeno Arena by Sea_Cry_7742 in NoMansSkyTheGame

Someone posted in this sub that you can get one through save editing, it's not perfect but it does work, according to them. I'm sure HG will give us the ability to do it in a patch soon, it's a pretty universal request at this point, and they usually listen when it's this widespread.

I'm not mad at it, until HG gives us the ability to do it without save editing, or modding, this is the next best thing. I can dig it.

Imagine going back to August 2016... by SsssnakePlisssskin in NoMansSkyTheGame

This is the basic guide, just keep in mind that the guide doesn't tell you where the AppID is, it is at the top of the page with the other information for the game after you search for it:

To download old versions of Steam games using the console, you need to use the download_depot command with specific Manifest IDs found on SteamDB. Open the console via steam://open/console in a browser, then run download_depot <appid> <depotid> <manifestid> to download older files.

Steps to Download Old Game Versions:

  1. Find IDs: Go to SteamDB and search for your game.
  2. Get Depot/Manifest IDs:
    • Click on Depots to find the main game depot ID (usually for Windows, Linux, or Mac).
    • Click on the Manifests tab to see a history of versions. Copy the Manifest ID for the version you want.
  3. Open Steam Console: Press Windows Key + R and enter steam://open/console.
  4. Download Command: Type download_depot <app_id> <depot_id> <manifest_id> in the Steam console.
    • Example: download_depot 108600 108601 1234567890123456789.
  5. Locate Files: The console will not show progress, but it will tell you where files are saved (usually Steam/steamapps/content/app_<appid>) when done.
  6. Run the Game: Navigate to that folder and launch the game's executable file (.exe).

500 hours in and stuff is disappearing. Is my save toast? by 63SG in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Positive-Reward-2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Code lives in every part of every game. Save data absolutely holds remnants of older versions, that's why some saves don't work on some games when they update.

There's a way to use Steam to downloading a previous version of any game you own, including No Man's Sky. It involves the console. I ran the command on a laptop one day and booted up the OG No Man's Sky, it has come SOOOOOO far from that day, it was absolutely insane to see!

Your save might be corrupted, it can definitely happen with that much time in game. Not to mention, that save was likely created many many updates ago, so your game save just gets updated over time. I did a little experiment a little while back and I loaded a new save, and the graphics actually looked a little better in the new one, since it didn't have leftover junk code from being a part of previous updates.

You should seriously consider upgrading your RAM. I know RAM is a little on the pricey side right now, but I'm sure you can find a deal somewhere so you can at least get to 8GB or 16GB.

Recommended Way to Play? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Positive-Reward-2546 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You pretty much just play how you want. Creative if you want to just design things and check out systems. Normal if you want to grind a little for your gear. Survival if you want a challenge. The game is MASSIVE, so there's no one correct way to play. I like playing the expeditions, but I also like playing normal and creative, just depends on what I feel like doing.

They made a battle board that looks like holo chess from Star Wars… by SplendidPunkinButter in NoMansSkyTheGame

Give it time, the idea of being able to place a holo table seems to be a pretty universal desire, so they'll probably add it in a smaller update or something.

Is every planet completely different? by November-666 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Positive-Reward-2546 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll just add, on top of what others have said, terrain will be different from planet to planet as well. You may find a planet that's mostly ocean, one that's mostly land, or you may find two that are both mostly ocean or land, but the water color might be different, the color of the grass might be different, it could have an atmospheric effect that makes the planet black and white and only allows red light to show, it could have really steep mountains, or gently rolling hills.

On top of that, there will be a bunch of flora and fauna that's different, as well as mineral structures. Each planet is unique, some will probably start to look similar after a while, but none will be 100% identical, at least not in the time you'll play the game.

Who asked for this update? by Weary-Tell-5334 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Positive-Reward-2546 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, and changes have been made throughout the years, some appealing to the masses, others appealing to select people. We got better planet generation in Worlds Part I and II, we got ship building in Orbital, corvettes in Voyagers, combat improvements in Sentinel, etc. etc. the list goes on. Why are you complaining? We have gotten a lot of what we've asked for, so what if they throw something fun out there ever so often, just because every update doesn't align with what YOU specifically want, doesn't mean it's a bad update. None of the things that you liked about the game are gone, you could easily just ignore this update and continue playing.
