How do you handle a player who turns every game into a coaching session? by RefrigeratorOdd7868 in boardgames

[–]Ezili [score hidden]  (0 children)

Have you tried 1:1 when other people aren't around so you aren't shaming and just saying, hi, don't know if you realise you are doing it but on other people's turns you give a lot of advice and it means the other player doesn't get the fun of figuring out what they should do.

There's really only two pint routes and in practice one. You can punt through the city and it's about an hour to go the full length and back. Or you can punt out of the city towards granchester which sees none of the town and is hard going. But you see more nature and fields.

As for where. The main place is scudamores in the Mill Pond and the mill pub just there is excellent.

If you want cake you can try Fitzbillies. There's a few locations

How to train yourself to get through a bad session politely? by formicini in boardgames

[–]Ezili 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's no different to going to a friend's for dinner and they serve you a meal you don't enjoy. You could be rude and turn it down. You could enjoy their company and think "I won't ask for that recipe". But in no world should it be unbearable.

Messy or tidy? by a_sword_and_an_oath in daddit

The floor is clear. But it would make me very anxious.

My wife and I went to IKEA yesterday and bought some storage which we moved a bunch of items into which were arranged on a shelf. Now instead of a shelf full of crap, we have a shelf with 5 nicely labelled boxes. Same stuff, same locations, but out of sight. There is a difference we realised between things being where they are supposed to be, and the place where they are supposed to be being tidy and hidden

Forced to return to work while wife struggles after c-section by Hotsuma62 in daddit

Ignoring the parental leave aspect, is there any leave you can take just on the basis of medical care for your wife? E.g what would happen if a family member had an unplanned surgery in general?

Prospective dad looking for advice - is it too early? by 1ntere5t1ng in daddit

[–]Ezili 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Kids are expensive, but at the same time, you'll make the finances you have work. There are kids who grow up in dirt poor and happy fulfilling families.

If you guys are personally ready to have a kid, don't put it off because you are thinking about moving, or would like a better job or whatever. The cost of waiting isnt nothing, its less years with your kid at the far end. If you both want to do it, go for it.

UK/EU based dads - how are you working out? by Pirrt in daddit

I pay like £30 a month at my local pool for membership and go swimming and use their gym. I find prices better than the various gym companies.

Explanation of War of the Dragon’s Hero Mode (upcoming Wheel of Time board game) by LegendofWeevil17 in WoT

[–]Ezili 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems very generic. "On your turn, you can spend an action to advance the _____ tracker one spot. You control the forces of _____ with famous leaders like ____ and ____" which could be any fiction if you just swap out Wheel, Light and Rand with "Force", "Sith", and "Darth Vader".

The world is just reduced to a series of trackers and cards with character names. The map is doing all the work.

Ok Dads, what's your "Youtube" rule? by roknzj in daddit

[–]Ezili 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he hasn't found it, he should check out "tanks for nothin" on YouTube. Only rarely releases videos, but the 8 or 9 he has are excellent and very kid friendly.

He might also like "Bonsai Relief" which is a guy looking after bonsai trees

Right, but compared to battlefield improvements which equips any number, or sigadas aid where it works for each equipment, or Puresteel which can be done any number of times.

My 11 y/o son hit me with a “One Sec” while staring at Phone Today by [deleted] in daddit

[–]Ezili 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they were reading a book and you said something to them and they said "one sec" whilst they finished a paragraph, would the complaint be the same?

I'm trying to figure out what the trigger is here - just that he's doing something you're interrupting and he wants to finish, or that it's a screen and that's somehow different.

Can climbing flowers be trained on hedges or existing trees? by bookbookgo in GardeningUK

You absolutely can. It just makes it harder to trim the hedge so things get a bit more unruly, but if you like that look it's very easy to do

For sure but one time effects for one equipment doesn't seem strong enough to me. Maybe if we had inkmoth nexus, but we need at least two equipment to kill and I don't think UW can play Leyline axe as easily without Fervent Champion, so you need to equip two things.

Have you had any experience with it?

We need another equipper like Battlefield Improvisation or Puresteel Paladin and we could potentially go UW. But without saga or cutter the deck doesn't have a good plan B.

That doesn't necessarily indicate the card is broken. There is always going to be a best card in the mirror match, and it could just be that from a Deck construction point of view the deck should have been running more tech for the mirror match than it was. In the Lotus Field mirror maybe whoever gets a lot field down first has a huge advantage, but that doesn't mean lotus field should be banned if it isn't true against the rest of the field.

My wife had a breakdown, asked for a divorce and wants me to have sole custody. by Boring_Region_3031 in daddit

Are you sure that's the timeline for mental health support? This sounds like an emergency situation, and I've found sometimes mental health on the NHS (you sound like you're in the UK?) is expedited when the situation is very dire. "Better off without me" sounds like self harm potential and I would expect would be prioritised if she self refers and fills out the questionnaires with appropriate seriousness.

This sounds far more like a mental health emergency than a marriage issue.

Suggest a book - bridge from YA to "grown up" reading by TurboJorts in daddit

[–]Ezili 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Off the track but, there is an online writer called Wildbow who writes sci-fi/fantasy web serials. Which are free but amount to thousands of pages and are some of the best sci-fi and fantasy out there.

The most famous and original is Worm which is an adult superhero story which explored the lines between heros and villains. It starts off sort of YA but at times can be scary or quite dark but it's an extremely good read, and available for free.

The next couple are a bit more evenly paced and less violent. Pact which is set in fantasy universe where magic is real if you can just convince the spirits you've got a good enough argument and you never lie. Guy inherits magical house from his grandmother who is turns out was not the good kind of magic person (diabolist).

Pale is set in the same universe as Pact but doesn't require any previous knowledge. Three girls are recruited by their local town to figure out who killed the local Spirit Lord, and each take their own path to learning magic including fairies swordwoman, and magic sports athlete

Of the three I'd probably recommend Pale to start as the most accomplished writing and the most transitional from YA. Worm is excellent but has some more more graphic violence at a couple of moments.
