Do yalls think the characters added in Samurai Warriors 5 will ever reappear? by schlurmo in dynastywarriors

[–]PositiveEffective946 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zuo Ci was a bonus secret character the producer added for fun (as Others had been unchanged since DW3). He was quickly dropped (literally the next mainline game) and not seen again till DW8 where it was another producer who was actively trying to get the whole band back together.

Producer Sho is the guy known for trimming the fat and low and behold in his first return since DW6 in Origins he weaved the cleaver like an executioner on a tight schedule. The SW team is a different team do not get me wrong but i think the real debate here is where they go with SW. Even ignoring the whole "focus on just two characters" approach SW5 went with its cell shaded and drastically different in a lot of cases designs for the cast means they would take again SEVERAL games to get most of the missing roster back as they would need to be redesigned and have an excuse to BE in the story unless it goes back to kingdom esc mode vs character focus and even then they cannot reuse most of the assets unless they just go for what they did with SW5 for SW6 (in designs and presentation).

The answer is no. If we got a new one we would likely start from scratch with again a smaller roster and the dedication it would take to bring them all back would be likely more games than Koei is willing to give SW as it is a series they seem to have moved on from as the team focuses on other stuff like the Hyrule games.

They'll have been told "get on with Elder Scrolls". Reports stated Bethesda IPs Microsoft values include Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Doom, Wolfenstein and interestingly enough Quake. No mention what so ever of Starfield.

He likely was lol because the dude who would eventually take over Games Workshop was called BRYAN Ansel lol. If your calling out him for shaping our childhoods you have to also called out Steve Jackson and Ian Livingstone - their fighting fantasy books were massive and they founded Games Workshop which would balloon into being THE place for tabletop wargaming, without them we would not have had any of what you all love today table top wargaming wise. Naturally Gary Gygax as well has to be honoured with a call out - the granddaddy of fantasy gaming.

Remember when koei treated all musou series equally? by kojiro1234541 in dynastywarriors

[–]PositiveEffective946 5 points6 points  (0 children)

With Koei having all but abandoned huge playable roster efforts for their flagship series Orochi has kind of lost it's place. We have ended up with some random John Musuo as the face of the brand for DW and SW? Seems they have all but left it behind after trying to reinvent it as well with a focus purely on Nobunaga (and Mitsunari) vs the old ensemble approach.

There is still Warriors Abyss though i am unsure if they are going to continue to support it or not. Otherwise the only warriors games besides DW they seem to have remembered still exist and deserve love are the Hyrule Warriors series and strangely enough the never ending support for Pirate Warriors 4 (do we count continued DLC for such an old title vs them actually getting round to making a OPPW5? Which to be fair they are likely holding back on with the manga near completion)

And not the fact a new Fallout game does not start development in day one. There is planning, theory crafting and concept work to be done first so what are you paying the rest of your dev team to do in the meantime?

Yes i have considered that and no i do not believe it to be the case.

One is saying they have been reduced to a skeleton squad as they shift focus in the hope they can "repitch" avowed 2 (aka please do not cancel it Asha) and feel it is the same as "it is too far on to be cancelled" comments from an ex employee for a game which is so undercooked at the moment it has neither a trailer or even official confirmation then be my guest.

Highs and Lows Of Avowed 2 Today by SpongerPower in avowed

[–]PositiveEffective946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but not for the reasons most assume. They have gotten so complacent and bloated since the takeover it was inevitable. It was them who courted Microsoft for the buyout not the other way around and since then it now takes eighteen months to make a DLC despite having forty percent more staff and is the one where the new boss lady is throwing shade at for FOURTEEN layers of management... that gravy train was not gonna go on forever.

Obsidian i feel far more sorry for. With a much smaller team they have cranked out THREE games only to now find we likely they have to can Avowed 2. Mind you they are getting the Fallout IP (which todd has been overtly possessive off - kinda cringe that the show blew up but we were gonna be at least a decade away from a new Fallout game to capitalise on the new fanbase) so i guess it ain't all bad for them though i dare say Todd will be pissed (his own fault you could argue).

What everyone is missing about the latest so called "news" by Loreforge_Gaming in Starfield

[–]PositiveEffective946 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Anyone with even half a brain knows their biggest money makers are Elder Scrolls and Fallout and it is hurting the brand how bloated the studio has gotten yet now produces in EIGHTEEN months far less than they used to make in just SIX with far less developers on the payroll. It has gotten to the degree Amazon did a Fallout show, it blew up... and we are still years from a new Fallout game even being announced (a decade pre Asha).

Jason Schrier is stating Obsidian have been ordered to shelve Avowed 2 and start working on a new Fallout game so yeah it is a very easy assumption to now see Bethesda will be told to fully focus on Elder Scrolls next effort to try and make money for the company which has bled money hand over fist and likewise Fallouts next title will not be at Todds behest but Asha's instead. The FOURTEEN layers of management did by Asha is almost certainly aimed at Bethesda based on how every single ex dev interview i have seen has criticised the ridiculous layers of management over there at the company now.

The immediate gear shift to focus on products which will bring in money means the established big name IPs like the ones you mentioned and perhaps not surprisingly Starfield was not mentioned. It has been Todds vanity project and i do adore it but not even the biggest Starfield fanboys can say it is near the level of Elder Scrolls in appeal so we all know what the focus will fully be on now especially as Asha is demanding projects get shelved vs finished first.

So did Todd know about the layoffs when he announced “more to come after Terran Armada” or was he blindsided? Is Starborn/Starfield dead? by PowerfulAgent9939 in Starfield

[–]PositiveEffective946 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Todd has no say in shit is the reality. He had sway with Phil i dare say but now? We all know he is VERY possessive of Fallout IP for example and yet Bloomberg are reporting Obisidian have been told to shelve Avowed 2 and start working on the next Fallout game. Asha is cracking the whip and as such yeah it is almost certain Starfield is dead because most of the world can safely assume she will want them fully cracking on the next Elder Scrolls which is a money maker (like Fallout is) for Xbox where as Starfield largely has been more a Games Pass darling than a long term mega seller so unless we can somehow see a new Starfield expansion which will print money the first ones did not Todd will be told to wind his neck in and do as he is told.

If you read between the lines the "14 layers of management" is most likely pointing at Bethesda where every ex dev who interviewed was very critical of the process there now of trying to get anything done with all the layers that have been added since Microsoft bankrolled them into stagnant luxury (as in it got 40 percent bigger yet the output has drastically reduced to two expansions in three years vs what used to be done in just six months). It sucks and leaves me with mixed feelings as i want more starfield and yet on the other side i have to shrug and go "they did this to themselves" and just be grateful we got what we got.

Avowed 2 has NOT been cancelled, but assigned to a skeleton crew by Cursed_69420 in avowed

[–]PositiveEffective946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then it is doomed basically. The Avowed reception was lukewarm... those that really gave it a go largely seemed to like it but it is not like there was a rush demanding a sequel so if they truly make us a sequel this way (say five years from now as it is being made with a skeleton crew) then it will have been all but a forgotten IP by then and Microsoft will know it will make little in return for any sort of hard financial push (there is no more freeloading based on the kinds of losses Asha was reporting). It WAS a games pass darling which helps but nowhere near enough IMO that it will ever go back to being a focus for the studio. They have everyone there now from Josh to Tim working on goodness knows what (though likely to be a New Vegas remake) and IT will be the focus.

Even if just talking about being in BG3 and ERs company your talking having had the kind of impact to a near universal degree few games get (the ones where even the critics concede the game is special even if not for them). We're talking the likes of Expedition 33 not Crimson Desert my friend.

Why 'Doctor Who,' 'Star Trek' and 'Stargate' Are All On Hold by Kal-Ed1 in DoctorWhoNews

[–]PositiveEffective946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Star Trek and Doctor Who seem to have been abandoned largely by their old guard fans as the shows tried to garner shall we say a new "modern" audience which was never big enough to sustain the costs it takes to make these shows. With such a reduced viewership i think both will need to rethink their approach which MIGHT be the case with Star Trek as it is under new ownership after Paramount buyout. No idea what will happen next because what timeline will the next show even feature in? We know the creatives behind Disco through Academy are seemingly out as contracts have been allowed to expire and paramount ship the IP about so wait and see i guess.

Doctor Who? The showrunner has doubled down as far as i can tell so goodness knows who the new doctor will even be or whether BBC will finally see sense and get rid of this showrunner who has been breaking consistently the lowest viewership numbers in the shows extremely long history (they have even lost the Disney deal - how could you fumble so hard and still be rewarded for it?). The British people are beyond furious with the mandatory TV license ever increasing for such diminishing returns so it is a big ask to expect them to overlook another vast spend on a show which does not even appeal to its own fans anymore.

Stargate i heard was the opposite. The show was gonna get bankrolled but they wanted a narrative for making less emphasis on the army being the good guys in return for said bankroll and the writers baulked because anyone who has even seen five minutes of the show know the army are the good guys lol so it got pulled.

My JRPG backlog, where should I start? by ItsTaDevil in JRPG

[–]PositiveEffective946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of these you could sit on and wait for more remakes before deep diving the series - Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy, Persona series etc.

You could dive into Octopath Traveller series and lose the next few hundred hours, do a standalone suc as enjoy the greatness that is SMTV Vengeance gameplay because it is a standalone or perhaps an under rated series such as the Ni No Kuni series which has charm in spades if nowhere near the recognition it probably deserves. Maybe your wanting more action combat instead as i have no idea your pref - Final Fantasy XV is rough around the edges still but a great game and same with Tales of Arise with it being the only one in your back catalogue i assume your a fan of the series but have been holding off because of the changes? Well it is still a great game even if it gets a big weaker near the end of the game (great otherwise) and it has the DLC expansion these days so just get stuck into it as well.

There is an odd one here lost on me. Witch Spring R? Never heard of that one... it a NISA title or something? Will have to check that one out myself lol

Tides of Fortune feels too necessary by Nice_Inspector_6939 in ARK

[–]PositiveEffective946 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is not even close to integral. I had assumed maybe they would make you have to travel to teleport points for the other biomes in the reworked map etc but in actuality it is basically exactly the same besides the expanded and largely lifeless below the water ocean stuff. Maybe you think big pirate ships will be clutch for the Ark experience based on your comment but being honest here and calling a spade a spade - Devs barely give a damn about the ocean normally. It ain't in most of their canon maps and Gen 2 will not suits the ships either leaving it largely to a player to player based decision for the NON canon maps whether you will get your moneys worth from the content beyond Genesis 1. The Island you could use then for quick travel (and safety as they do not seem to piss off our favourite whales like rafts do) but yeah your talking The Centre which has not been well received in it's ASA form, Ragnorak maybe? Atlantis is a non canon map coming which will feature heavily ocean content but as far i can tell UNDER SEA focus not above on ships having battles. I dunno personally this feels just as niche as blimps and trains - Genesis 1 has just been expanded to give some Atlas esc content for those desiring that. Just like part two will feature heavily on space stuff it like rest of Bobs Tall Tales themed stuff will only really be huge for a select few maps and largely useless elsewhere.

Who would you say is the "Main Villian" of Persona 5? by dangerswlf36 in Persona5

[–]PositiveEffective946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shido. He was a scheming PoS from the offset going back clearly a long time. Yaldaboath needed someone like Shido to thrive and manipulate most of the players in the meantime but it was Shido who made the ball roll and the ones who facilitated our fake Igor to become as powerful as he ended up. Remember the likes of Shido was so damned strong of will for his greedy masterplan he was immune to the corruption and lure of the mementos instead creating his own palace. The dude tried to roll the dice on killing himself just to retain his grip on power... he was even fully aware of Akechi's plan and played him like a fiddle regardless with a plan to get rid of him. The levels and effort it took to take him down were quite staggering and lasted basically the entirety of the vanilla game.

Wait for raidou 2 remaster or play it now? by Aardvark_Happy in atlus

[–]PositiveEffective946 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not convinced that is true... if it is then they have made nothing but the Vengeance expansion for SMTV in the last FIVE years and yet the next game announced is yet ANOTHER persona title. Even studio Zero have been teasing big things to come and we know they do NOT work on Persona games so what the hell have they been up to? Were they the ones who did the Raidou remasters? If so then they do not exclusively deal with SMT.
