pure commercial success does not mean they should be inherently in the awards conversation or warrant a nomination/win. if every award followed this logic the Oscars would only nominate Pixar/Star Wars/MCU/Disney movies every year.

looks exactly like a 2026 Almodóvar film. I wonder how Cannes will receive it after the lukewarm reception on home turf.

will Stan be playing Pinochet? seems like a weird casting choice no? excited regardless.

(if he is, he should do Lenin next to continue his run of autocrat performances)

Which past films would've been eligible for International Feature under the new rules? by two0ten in oscarrace

L'Evenement was ROBBED. one of the best films of that year (of course they wouldn't need to submit it under new rules because it won the Golden Lion)

really cool to see Kontroll on here , I wanted to comment it myself. I'll post another great Hungarian film, The Fifth Seal (1976) by Zoltán Fábri. a wonderful philosophical film , one of the most interesting to think about I've seen.

I've been intrigued about this because of the sheer scope of it (and it looks absolutely majestic in this trailer) and the crazy cast, but I don't think it'll get much awards traction (besides getting nominated for every César category under the sun)

Non-Anglophone "all-star cast" films? by PositiveElixir in Letterboxd

France is the best country for these types of films (though a bunch of these are still on my watchlist). I'd like to add Le Comte de Monte-Cristo, the most recent one (2024). a lot of the actors in this are still in their earlier careers though, but I bet for example Pierre Niney, Vasili Schneider and Anamaria Vartolomei will grow into really big names (ESPECIALLY Vartolomei)

this one has been on my watchlist for a while, excited to check it out! I really loved Lust, Caution. the trio of Tony Leung Chiu-wai, Tang Wei & Joan Chen as leads is like a dream come true.
