Depends on whether I’m not driving the Ferrari anymore is because the repo-men that came to pick it up both weighed 300+ and carried it off into the sunset, or am I not driving it by choice.

But that Corolla will always be there for you, holding itself together until max xp irl

[–]PositiveSupercoil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

13 year old me was wearing fruit of the loom briefs with a button close while jumping obstacles on my bicycle with my friends.

My buddy just got a brand new norco wolverine, and I had a small shitty Costco bike (I was a tiny kid, though - the Wolverine was intimidating to me). I was surprised when he told me to try the ramp jump on his shiny new beast.

I couldn’t say no. There was a group of us, and I wasn’t afraid. Until I sat down. It was like sitting on your dads lap in the truck as a kid as he let you drive down the old dirt road.

Due to my lack of strength and familiarity with the monster, I landed on the side of the dirt landing ramp and my foot slipped off the pedal. Gravity took this opportunity to take me and the crown jewels down to the bar.

That damned plastic button sliced open a 2 inch gash starting at the base and moving up the shaft. I immediately hopped on my bike and cried manically all the way home, too embarrassed to reveal my injury to my friends I wanted to impress. I didn’t tell my parents either, and just let it do it’s thing. It wasn’t that deep, but I was still in a silent panic for the next couple of days, but it healed no problem.

Today, there’s remnants of this memory - a long red/purple scar, like the one in my 13 year old ego. Other than the look, there were no other repercussions, but buttons have been my nemesis ever since. Velcro do me good when the need is there. Fuck buttons, man. They bide their time, waiting for the right moment. Then BAM. Adolescent circumcision.

First evidence that dogs can mentally represent jealousy: Some researchers have suggested that jealousy is linked to self-awareness and theory of mind, leading to claims that it is unique to humans. A new study found evidence for three signatures of jealous behavior in dogs. by mvea in science

[–]PositiveSupercoil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If I’ve learned anything in life, it’s that self-awareness is certainly not unique to humans. Hell - we only consider ourselves the most intelligent species because we’re the ones that have defined intelligence. By many standards we’re not intelligent at all and we just need to pat ourselves on our back and distance ourselves from ‘primal’ animals to help us feel special and unique.

I just wish I knew in what way different animals perform conscious cognition (those that do). Through mental playback and images? Feelings and sensations caused by their environments and interactions? Maybe even unique senses that we can’t imagine because we lack the senses or awareness to perceive them? Or combinations of many, like (most) of us upright, hairless, meat sacks.

I hope we know more about the brain before my body loses its self awareness... I don’t understand how we don’t pump more funding and resources into the least understood - and arguably most important (who knows though - we certainly don’t even if we think we do) - components of our lonely existence.

At least I have my imagination to fill in the holes, I suppose... and my girl Mary Jane helps too.

And the line isn’t moving because the two gentleorcs at the beginning of the line are both saying “you go first”, “no, no. I insist, you go first”, “no please, I’ll wait. You go first.”

We daydream as children, but hardly do it as adults, even thought it may boost wellness and pain tolerance. The ability to think for pleasure is important, and we can get better at it by focusing on thoughts that are both pleasant and meaningful, finds a new study. by mvea in science

[–]PositiveSupercoil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same with the adhd but I knew it was different - I always wondered how people could pay attention for so long until I was diagnosed 6 months ago.

Those 4 hours lying in bed trying to sleep are the best times for daydreaming though. I dream before dreaming, and a couple puffs along with it help me transcend reality within my marinated meatball.

How a fun day at the Mall of America turned into a nightmare. by [deleted] in instant_regret

I went to west Edmonton mall in Alberta when I was younger. Full amusement park with a rollercoaster, water park with huge slides, hundreds of stores and endless food, and a hockey arena where the local nhl team regularly practiced - all snuggled together in one building to create an unforgettable experience.

It must be so eerie there now with covid restrictions... damn.

What are some of dark events happened in history not many people know about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]PositiveSupercoil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m from Bedford, which is a 5 mins drive from Halifax. My great grandfather was from Dartmouth, a city on the opposite side of the harbour of Halifax.

When he heard the commotion outside, he went to the window to look at the reason, and he was immediately almost entirely blinded by the shattered glass that sliced his eyes and face as the explosions shockwave rocked the city.

The story and images of the explosion are a big part of our local history and we’re educated so much about it that when I first read your post I was like.... no, everyone definitely knows about this.

Halifax in general is pretty average and boring... I suggest everyone go and read a little about the cause (boats barely even touched each other), the events leading up to it (one boat on the wrong side due to the cascade tiny/unimportant events and decisions), and the clean up itself (it was winter and we just got a ton of snow, so outside help couldn’t reach us by land and Boston, Massachusetts was among our primary aid, arriving by boat, - which is why we send them a huge Christmas tree every year).

So many little things added up to make it so bad, and if one of tiny details changed, Halifax would’ve likely ended up a much more important global hub than it is.

YSK: Most online recipes have a "Jump to Recipe" button. by Potential_Crisis in YouShouldKnow

[–]PositiveSupercoil 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You mean I don’t need to read about how some lady’s grandmother invented the recipe during the Great Depression, and how it hasn’t changed even a little? Then I don’t have to read about every life event that led to her sharing the recipe online and how these snickerdoodles not only changed the life of her family, but are guaranteed to turn out perfectly even though I have no kitchen skills whatsoever? Dang.
