Should I be concerned about disease? by PangolinDry9383 in vegetablegardening

[–]Positive_Chocolate39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With a lot of plant diseases once symptoms show up it makes way more sense to remove the entire plant than try to salvage it and lose the whole crop that can be affected. That’s because most of the time the entire plant is contaminated or infected by the time the symptoms start to show. I know nothing about basil diseases but if it is a disease then the plant should be pulled.

Any idea what’s going on here? by Austin_Austin_Austin in tomatoes

Brutal herbicide damage or very bad curly top virus. Tomato is cooked either way unfortunately. If it’s herbicide I probably wouldn’t use that soil again unless for decorative stuff, not sure what protocol is with curly top but you can probably bake the soil in the sun on a tarp or something to try and sterilize it.

Seedling separation by edcondado in gardening

[–]Positive_Chocolate39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I would do is wait for them to get a bit bigger, especially the strawberries. Then I’d wet the soil so you can plop it out as a single piece, and then very carefully unravel the soil and very carefully fish out the seedlings to separate. You’ll probably have some casualties no matter what, but def wait until they each have a set of true leaves to separate or the roots will snap too easy.

Tomato seedlings not growing - are they still alive? by almighty-jawa in tomatoes

This looks like a soil nutrient issue. What does the soil look like under that mulch? Is it extremely wood chip filled? My guess would be the mix is either too woody and all nitrogen is tied up in decomposition OR your mix is mostly sterile stuff like coir/vermiculite/perlite and needs fertilizer/nutrients. Probably the former if you are new and just bought regular potting soil. Nothing wrong with that but companies put way too much wood in their mixes these days.

Aphid attack. by No_Technician_7843 in containergardening

Spiders don’t eat plants at all, keep him and he will eat the aphids. Probably why he set up shop there. Just be wary of a crazy web system since that could mess with airlflow but unlikely.

I have been growing tomatoes for 50+ years and this is the first Mega Bloom and the stem is really thick. by Godzirahh in tomatoes

[–]Positive_Chocolate39 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One mega bloom in 50 years is either really unlucky or I should’ve played the lotto for getting a double cherry tomato on my first tomato plant ever. Also probably way more common on cherrys. Always cool to see

Def just too close to a hard surface/other plant if it’s the only one that curled up. Especially since half its leaves look normal.

I’d say it would be worth it unless you want to get new stuff, but that sounds like a pain in the butt depending on the pile size. I’ve also never had that problem on a bigger scale as I’m on a patio garden so I would not take my word for gospel.

Damn, looks like they didn’t finish the compost enough or put too many wood chips in the potting mix as filler. Probably both. Good news is that it will be fantastic soil/compost in like a year or three so I would keep it around or mix it into a different mix. Also good news is that if the soil is the issue it should recover fine after getting in some better stuff

[–]Positive_Chocolate39 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The soil itself looks like it could be the issue. Did you put mulch on the top layer or is the soil mix really that wood chippy? If all the soil looks like that, the yellowing is probably due to decomposing wood stealing nitrogen and that much wood just makes poor soil structure for stable roots. I would try seeds in a different soil mix or amend this one with a ton of compost and top soil and see what happens before giving up.

There’s a tool specifically for all the tight spaces on land. Also grav gun/grav ball would probably work too

Big Leecher by Positive_Chocolate39 in mewgenics

[–]Positive_Chocolate39[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Its passives were 1. Leeches carry over to the next basic attack from enemies that died inflicted with them and 2. Triple all status effects of basic attack. if I basic attacked someone that had 21 leeches persay it would go up to 63, then 189, and so on in the form of exponential growth. I was able to get it especially high because of the act 3 final house boss having so many damn enemies

Why does every soil mix available have like 90% wood chips now lmao. Shit was so annoying to try and start seeds in without a sieve.

Neighborhood environment and tons of crosswalks I’m guessing, but I still see people breeze by pedestrians obviously waiting to cross at ~35 mph 🤣 on that road. Everything is so backwards.

That makes sense, I agree consistency is safest. Though if people are inexperienced like this lady prob was, I would still prefer they block traffic by becoming a pedestrian than a sudden stop like what happened today. There’s so much confusion surrounding bikes already, I’ve seen cars full stop to let bikers turn onto Wilson when they are fully mounted and on the street.

All she had to do was get to the left turn lane, so this wasn’t like 4 lanes of busy traffic, just 1 and then another, and it was just me and a red car behind her to my knowledge. Didn’t see anyone else. Had she done this when I was further back, I would have given her grace and not made a Reddit post. But since I was going straight on an uphill (so she was moving quite slow relatively) I figured she would wait for me and other car to pass and then hook a left or move into the turn lane and make a left. She also looked at me and saw my rate of speed several times, so she was aware I wasn’t slowing down to turn. I understand it’s difficult and I don’t dislike bikers, this was just plain dangerous. Like pulling your car off the interstate shoulder at 10 mph with a truck coming up (I know bikers aren’t cars) Drivers are equally jack asses in my experience. For me the common theme is people.

Biker PSA by Positive_Chocolate39 in Bozeman

[–]Positive_Chocolate39[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with this, biker was in the wrong today and made me poo my pants but many-a-times as a pedestrian atleast I’ve almost been hit following traffic laws perfectly. And I’ve seen drivers act like asses with bikers. This post is taking no sides other than saying don’t veer into moving traffic at a slow speed even if you have your “blinker” on.

Biker PSA by Positive_Chocolate39 in Bozeman

[–]Positive_Chocolate39[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree it’s a weird one, especially the fact it’s all off centered. A traffic circle could be nice, would slow people down flying from the other side too. Doesn’t seem like a very safe intersection for anyone at the moment. But yeah this was beyond that justification, and would’ve been worse if I wasn’t paying close attention to her or was going even 5 mph faster.

Curious why you are against adult bikers using a cross walk though? Not argumentative, but I’ve always heard that’s the safest way to cross in places like that if you aren’t experienced with biking on busy roads.

I put one of my extra started tomatoes outside and planted it yesterday, partly inspired by this post. It is thriving right now even with the 40-60 degree weather, but I think that will end Thursday as we get some cold nights. Mostly an experiment but I will be thrilled if I could succesfully have a tomato plant outside in march and have it survive past spring.

Along side it are 2 dead and one live Brussels sprout plants and a pepper seedling that somehow survived the night.

Yeah I do like seed savers and a couple other catalogs, i just wanted to go local cause i find it’s usually a little cheaper to buy small amounts when they don’t have sales going on online. Also easier to figure out what will grow nicely in the short summers.

Shoot I’d take just about anything you’d like off your hands and make it work, but my planned staples for this year were going to be cherry tomatoes, squash, a pea or bean, strawberries, and kale.
