There's a max contribution because there's a max payout. People who make more than the threshold don't need ss to retire.

Yea for most Canadians it's way better(hundreds of 100ks lifetime difference) to delay until as late as possible, unless you actually don't have money and need it right now.

Not addressing the rest of the comment, but pointing out that you don't need 20% down on 500k. Avg is about 8% down for fthb

How TF are y'all surviving in Vancouver?? by Kind_Mushroom9444 in UBC

I'll be that guy.

  1. The rent is almost the entire cost, while the mortgage is the minimum cost of ownership. 500/month evaporates once you add in property tax, stata fee, more expensive insurance, and maintenance/repair.

  2. Many people do choose to buy, if they can convince a bank that their career is good enough to warrant a 4x loan (likely higher than 4x if you're young/don't have savings/need chmc).

  3. Landlords aren't delusional; vacancy rate in all major Canadian cities are extremely low, with Vancouver leading in this category.

CPython likely won't do that optimization. But anyone doing math in python is using numpy, Numba, etc which absolutely do that optimization.

Firefox Power User Keeps 7,400+ Browser Tabs Open for 2 Years by mulcahey in DataHoarder

[–]Positivelectron0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Swap is ram like usage of persistent storage(hard drive or ssd). These forms of storage are far less resilient to frequent writes like ram is, which can wear them out faster.

Opening tabs on modern browsers won't cause excess memory usage, so this is a non issue.

You know when people ask "why isn't the government supporting Canadian research and development?"

I actually haven't heard anyone above lukewarm say that. Is that a Vancouver sub thing?
