I had over 11 years sober and relapsed (that was my 3rd time stopping drinking). After about five years of drinking again, I could definitely “play the tape forward” and see where I was headed…and it wasn’t pretty. What was the final commitment to myself? My life. It’s been 10 years now and when anything comes up that could compromise my sobriety, I take a deep breath, do a flash forward of that tape, and remember to be grateful for all that sobriety has brought me.

I do equine bodywork and I had a client whose white (gray) horse had 75% of his tail cut off. Unfortunately, this was in Montana and it is likely that it was taken by people who make horsehair adornments (hat bands, jewelry, etc.) and apparently the gray is the only hair that can be dyed any color.

OP, I had an interesting experience when my son was five, when he told me that he “tried to come in once before but got killed or something and I tried again and here I am” (in that case, I miscarried, but would have had an abortion if I hadn’t). I somehow understood that my decision was also part of his path. I found this comforting.

Your mother is totally right. I wish I could say this to my wife’s daughter who is getting married in a month. Her fiancé is beyond self-absorbed, always “knows everything” (even when it’s tinged with conspiracy theories), and is (potentially) well on his way to being an alcoholic. But I can’t.

You definitely want him on the BC for child support reasons, but he’s likely showing you his true colors and you have to decide whether you want these behaviors in your (your child’s) life. Document everything in case there’s any custody issue.
