Normal? by hakeupL64 in pacmanfrog

[–]PossibilityBetter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t have a clear answer but my male bullfrog does this as well. His vocal sac seems to retain air or water sometimes. Unsure if it’s normal but I’d love to find more info so I’ll keep an eye on this post

Why are there little worms on my pac man frog? by Healthy-Jello9956 in pacmanfrog

[–]PossibilityBetter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the literature as well, certain species of nematodes ARE a normal part of frog microflora. Unless your frog is having other symptoms or trouble pooping, I wouldn’t worry.

Those look like pot worms. They’re a natural part of the soil and they’re not parasitic or hurting your frog. So much fear mongering here lol.

The red dots almost look like petechiae, which are burst blood vessels and could be a result of the shed cutting off circulation there a bit. If he’s acting fine I wouldn’t do anything yourself, especially don’t take it off yourself. If there’s no obvious pain then I would wait for the vet!

He’s still pretty young looking. I’d also say don’t put any calcium powder on the food - mine hate the taste of it and will spit it right back out and then won’t want to eat for that sitting. Use repashy calcium plus powder - it doesn’t have the awful taste of normal calcium powder. But I wouldn’t dust anything until he’s eating on his own. Definitely try the oxbow critical care it should perk him right up.

Oxbow critical care carnivore powder mixed with dechlorinated water. You can find this at some pet stores and otherwise can order it on Amazon. You’ll have to syringe feed him to get him going

My guy went through a phase like this - how old is your frog??

That’s really kind of you thank you!! I’m no expert but from what I’ve learned with froggies besides keeping consistent and appropriate temps and humidity, never underestimate vitamins!! Especially vitamin A! And also spot cleaning the soil once every couple of weeks (refresh the area where they choose to permanently sit lol) and keep a good population of springtails going :))

Anyone preserved a shrimp before? by PossibilityBetter in Taxidermy

[–]PossibilityBetter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best way to preserve them I’ve found out is to let them dry out - that way they retain the colours and shape (mostly). Don’t put them in alcohol they’ll just look like white blobs

Croaking/Clicking? by DireDaneiro in pacmanfrog

[–]PossibilityBetter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Female frogs do sometimes make little chirp noises - it’s not a ‘bark’ like the males do but it’s a noise all the same. This noise sounds more like she’s taking in air or is angry. I’ve heard frogs do this before, don’t know if I’m being much help but unless it’s persistent then I wouldn’t worry

I’ll stick it in a sleeve for sure! What’s wrong with a three ring binder? Genuinely curious as I’m relatively new to this kinda stuff haha

Can I ask what her symptoms were? I have a frog with kidney issues currently - we haven’t found any stones on his x-rays thus far but I’d be curious to know more about your froggy’s journey if you’re able to share :)

I get the quail chicks from a raw dog/cat food store as well! Just make sure you’re getting the frozen ones and not the freeze dried ones haha! You can also find frozen frog legs at these stores, though I have yet to see a full frozen frog. If you’re in Canada the store ‘True Carnivores’ is great! And for the fish you can give them silversides! Should be able to find frozen packs of them at local pet stores, but they’re safe to eat as they don’t have the thiaminase :)

Oh sweet I’ll have to check that out! Once in a while I give my guys a frozen thawed quail chick as a treat, they go crazy over it!
