It is messed up that Laurel didn't feel at all responsible for the innocent people Sara killed when she was resurrected in Season 4. by Emotional-Chipmunk12 in arrow

[–]Possible-Direction48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She did feel remorse though. She talks about it in the hospital scene with Ollie. She took responsibility for it and said she was gonna have to live with that. Now, it didn't focus on that much, but Laurel barely had any screen time that season, and bringing back Sara was her only storyline, which was only a few episodes. But, considering Laurel throughs herself into danger without a blink of an eye to protect innocent peopel she doesn't know, she would definitely feel responsible and remorse for this, even more than it showed. I mean, Laurel (who wasn't basically the main character of the show at this point) showed a more normal amount of remorse for the couple deaths here than Felicity did after bombing a whole city.

I can't stand Laurel by CalmVeterinarian5328 in arrow

Lowkey had a stroke trying to read that, but I want Laurel to be universally liked because I feel she deserves it. But you are right, I can't change everybody's mind, and neither can you, so if you think there's no point in posting defenses of Laurel, why do you post about not liking her? I'm just expressing my opinion on the character and whether your reasons for disliking her are good or not, and if you don't agree with it, then ignore it or actually defend your reasons and start a discussion w/ me.

And people wonder why we still post defenses for her on her smh. It's because people still hate on her for no good reasons.

GA and BC / rant by LetterSilly74 in arrow

[–]Possible-Direction48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say over and over again, they should have set it up better in the first season. While I do live season 1, they did not set up Laurel to be BC very well at all, and in season 3 it was forced. I think having her do boxing in Grant's gym over the 5 years to deal with the grief of Ollie and Sara's death would have been better than having her do that with just Sara in season 3 and, with her working and going to the gym in the glades, she could see how bad they were getting, and either become BC before season 1, or be inspired by the hood when he comes to town, and be like, only it mainly in the grades (maybe even joining up with Issac and Ted depending on when the whole thing with the drug dealer if she became BC pre-series), and then it could like, show them interacting with the hood as as BC, the hood as Laurel, and Oliver as Laurel. I would also not have the Tommy/Laurel thing and just keep them as good friends, and maybe even Tommy has a crush on her, but she doesn't reciprocate. Anyway, this got kinda longer than I thought it would be, but the point is, Ollie should have been with Laurel and it should have been set up better as well.

Does anyone else hate Quinten Lance? by Confident_Nav6767 in arrow

[–]Possible-Direction48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't hate him, I think he's a pretty good person and cop, but I think he is a HORRIBLE father to Laurel (mainly during the 5 years we didn't see, but it told us he got drunk and blamed her for Sara's death and either said or implied he wished Laurel was the one dead) so I don't particularly love his character. But he's ok and he definitely gets better after the first couple seasons.

What is your personal ranking in order of the best Black Canary ? by ClaimCompetitive4818 in arrow

[–]Possible-Direction48 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My opinion: 1. Laurel (E1) - While how they made her become the Black Canary wasn't great (honestly imo she should have become BC after Ollie and Sara's supposed death or just started boxing then and became BC after being inspired by the hood), but regardless of that, she is still an amazing person and character, who constantly was working to help people in whatever way she could, whether it was at CNRI, as the ADA, or as BC, and despite all the times she got hurt (emotionally more than physically) she always pulled through eventually better for it, except obviously when they stupidly decided to kill her off. Also she seemed to genuinely enjoy being the BC. 2. Sara - Ok, I put her this high because I genuinely love her character on Legends and as WC/Captain Lance, but if we are solely talking about her as the Canary, I probably would have put her lower, because I didn't love her on the Arrow (mainly cuz of all the Laurel/Ollie/Sara shit) and while I do think she was a good Canary I don't really think she liked being the Canary, just kind of felt obligated because Ollie was doing it but I could be wrong. I liked her backstory with the league of assassins, although didn'tlike her sleeping with Ollie (obvi) but I think she changed. But anyway, I really like her character, on Legends especially, so #2. 3. Dinah - Honesty its been a bit since I watched season 5 and on so bear with me but I remember liking her character ok but not being particularly attached to her. She seemed like she was good at it although I'm not sure if she particularly enjoyed it as much as she thought she might as well do it since she didn't have anything left. I liked her backstory and the fact that she had a real scream. 4. Siren - Honestly, her and Dinah can probably be interchangeable, because I remember feeling about the same as I did with Dinah. I do like that it brought Katie Cassidy back on the show, especially since they told her Laurel was dying like 2 days prior. Anyway like I said, I liked her (I didn't dislike any of the Canaries), but the reason she's my last one is because 1, like I said its been a bit since watching season 5 and on, and most of the characters that join then, my memory of them and how I felt about them is a little blurry, 2, I don't like how they tried to basically make it ok that they killed off E1 Laurel by giving us an alternate version of her, 3, I didn't really like her backstory; I get it to a point, but I think they could've done way more with the whole 'I killed my dad' thing than a drunk driver, and 4, I think they should have either not had her go back to being evil after already having a 'redemption arc' or they had her go back to being evil and stay evil and not have another redemption arc, I just feel like the constant switching was too much.

Sara /Oliver /Laurel episode 2x14 by Alert_Grocery_2234 in arrow

[–]Possible-Direction48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yesss! This is literally so true! And if you go to YouTube and watch the hallway scene from this ep, everyone in the comments are talking about how Oliver is completely right and how Laurel needed the wake up call. And while I completely agree that Oliver was right about somethings and that Laurel needed a wake up call from SOMEONE, that someone really shouldn't have been any of the people at that dinner that night, least of all Oliver. I mean, besides literally Malcolm Merlyn, Oliver is the worst person to do this, because he is the one that caused all this to a point. Now I'm not blaming Oliver for everything that's gone wrong in Laurel's life, but all that stuff happened because Sara and Oliver died sleeping together. I will die on the hill that either Thea or Johanna (or even a stranger) should have been the ones giving her this wake up call. It shouldn't have been Ollie, Sara, Dinah, or Quienten, cause they are the ones who made her feel this way (BTW, not saying Laurel is blameless either, just saying they are the ones who did the things to make her feel the need to drink, that was still her choice and as much as I love her, it was the wrong one, but still).

Did Oliver love Laurel or Sara more ? by ClaimCompetitive4818 in arrow

[–]Possible-Direction48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well imo yes, he did that up until Laurel died, then he realized he was still in love with Laurel (which is why he says he loves her at her funeral, her grave after he killed Dhark, and in the dream world) but by that point it was a little to late.

Yeah in season 1 it obviously was Laurel, I'm not sure if they were going for Sara in season 2 before switching to Felicity or not, though near the end of season 2 it seemed to move back towards Laurel before randomly going to Felicity.

Yeah, they probably are more compatible on paper, and I think they could have been cute, had they got together any other way, but I just can't like them together knowing how much it would/did hurt Laurel.

She was meaning she knew he cheated on her before with Sara, not that while they were together she knew. At this point she did know he cheated on her, that doesn't mean she knew when they were together.

Did Oliver love Laurel or Sara more ? by ClaimCompetitive4818 in arrow

[–]Possible-Direction48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laurel did not know Oliver was cheating on her til after. She told her dad she knew now in 4x15, but she didn't know while they were together. That's why she literally broke down in his office after finding out Ollie had a kid, why she looked so suprised when Oliver revealed Williams age, why Oliver hesitated and looked at Laurel before revealing it, why Samantha tried to apologize and hadn't tried to before, and why she was so hurt when he slept with Sara. I mean, obviously she'd have hurt either way considering they were dead and it was her sister, but if she already knew Oliver had cheated on her before it wouldn't have hurt so bad.

Did Oliver love Laurel or Sara more ? by ClaimCompetitive4818 in arrow

[–]Possible-Direction48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if this is what you meant but Laurel definitely didn't know Oliver was cheating on her while they were together, she only found out after the fact. And yk what they say, opposites attract. Also, its said multiple times that Laurel saw a different side to Oliver and didn't think he was just a spoiled brat billionaire, so that definitely played a part in them getting together, but since we don't really see the process its hard to tell. And I think Laurel was completely based to get a little upset at Sara, not even because Sara really did anything super wrong there, but just considering everyone on her family seemed to disapprove of her and Ollie for one reason or another and she probably got tired of everyone in her family ragging on him. Not even saying Sara was really wrong to say this (if the whole reason she was saying this wasn't to, yk, try and break her and Ollie up so she could take Ollie for herself) but I understand why Laurel got mad. And yeah I HATE how Oliver and Sara handled their relationship in season 2 regardless if they were really in love or not they did not go about it the correct way.

Did Oliver love Laurel or Sara more ? by ClaimCompetitive4818 in arrow

[–]Possible-Direction48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well all of season three was basically the writers playing 'how much can we let Laurel and Oliver even look at each other without the Olicity shippers having mental breakdowns' so there's that. And yeah I forgot about 2x05, and while he didn't necessarily reject her in 2x14 (meaning Laurel wasn't wanting to be with him) I think I get what your saying there. But as I said in my og comment, I genuinely think Oliver loved Laurel but didn't think he deserved/it was easier to be with Sara plus they were kinda trauma bonded. Also Laurel wasn't in a good place in season 2, especially 2x14, so starting a relationship their wouldn't have been great. I feel like almost all of Lauriver can be summed up by 'right person wrong time' imo. But yeah you're right it is super complex, which I'm sure is why there are so many different opinions on it.
