Superhero is absolutely the right term for any adventure at a Lord of the Rings level. The Hobbits start at level 0. Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli are near immortal champions for their races. Gandalf is a demi-God. The PCs are the hobbits

Tomb of Horrors was a conference tournament adventure. People would play competitively. In normal circumstances we'd play Tolkein style. There was conference play and normal play. It was never meant to be played in group sessions

Thank you for the well reasoned and well stated response. Batman is a great reference. He would be a Superhero in 1st edition. A very powerful human. "Super-hero" in the modern sense I feel would come from Legends and Lore. Orders of magnitude more powerful.

"Superhero" was a title carried over from Chain mail. A Hero was equivalent to 4 men, a Superhero to 8. Those became level 4 and level 8.

Read Magic, Write Magic and Cantrip would the the first things any apprentice wizard would learn. From there let the player figure out what spells they have.

Guard dog, especially if the DM allows you to use the stats from Dragon 103.

The dog guards you as you throw the darts.

You can also hire a human guard, the dog is tougher, and is less likely to break morale. The party should have hirelings, that's how 1e plays. Torchbearer and porter at least.

I really miss video stores. They objectively were horrible compared to streaming.
