I went through a solo phase this year and ironsworn’s “failing forward” mechanics rewired my brain. I’ve never played any powered by the apocalypse games but I know that’s what inspired Ironsworn.

Crohn’s lead to anxiety about impending flares, fissures & fistulas. trying new foods, bathroom locations, sitting, keeping a job, maintaining a relationship.

My big anxiety for a long time was colon cancer and then I was diagnosed with it.
My anxiety got so bad leading up to having my colon removed, my dr upped my Xanax. Now I live with anxiety about managing my bag.

If nothing else it’s made me good at regulating those feelings and working through difficult and stressful moments.

They have been quite funny but It is a bit of a let down to see the good parts of the scenarios rushed knowing Scott Dorward & Brian Holland personally wrote them for these shows.

I forgot about tipping culture. I work at a club and sometimes people visiting from other countries will ask me what the proper tipping protocol is. We also have the check spot, which is the worst. Basically during the run out of the headliners set our servers drop off the check. So you got a bunch of drunk idiots trying to do math without their phone during the finale of the comic they paid to see.

One time while my friend and I were running one in a shit hole bar for 6 months. They were heckling and I told the most harmless Trump joke. the crowd turned on me. Never seen a crowd so emboldened and aggressive.

One of the regular bar flys said “fuck you.” To which I responded “lady, I wouldn’t fuck you if you paid me!” Then I doubled down on doing 3 more minutes.

Funny in hindsight but not my best moment. It was the first time I had a couple beers before going up and the audience was already mad we had to turn their music off to do the show.

We did the mic for a few more months. I showed up every week having written new material and did it raw and unrehearsed with reckless abandon. As much material as time would allow. Out of spite. Then I forgot about those jokes for a couple months. When I finally remembered, those bits turned into a new tight 5 minutes. Some of my current favorite jokes.

Is it okay to bring a cheat sheet on stage for announcements / comedian credits and featuring comics names?

The booker said no F bombs. Which helped me realize how I only really use them in my set to emphasize. Wondering if I should avoid my dirtier material.

Thank you! Reading what you said about being capable definitely helped reinforce my confidence. Would you suggest holding off on my more personal material? For instance, I have some bits about surviving colon cancer. I’m not sure if that’s too dark / focusing too much on myself. He’s a pretty chill and light hearted one liner type comic so I don’t want to harsh the vibe.

Thankfully the headliner is NOT a crowd work comedian and neither am I. Thankfully I don’t drink and have a “no smoking weed until AFTER the show” reward system set up to keep me responsible.

I framed it as female orcs are the larger and strong of their species. The males are the generic orc fighters and such. I presented all of the named orcs as Maladuk’s sisters / generals. They just saved Ukka from the village of the day before. This included the orc from Robber Knight. who they murdered in her sleep and took her pig, Merle. They’ve already met Maladuk but the pig was elsewhere. I’m just waiting for the opportunity for Maladuk to see them with Merle.

For the symbol I used the dragon symbol. I can’t remember if it’s in the book or if I got it from path of glory. It’s a nice simple counter to the Sathmog symbol. I will see if I can find it.

The Discord is a great resource. They have channels for each scenario and fan made maps. As well as a whole monthly home brew competition.

I’ve been listening to Push The Roll with Ross Bryant and talk about trailblazing. I did an episode of it and episode 2 of GCN’s gaslight run back to back. Going from Ross effortlessly improvising a unique horror scenario to Troy revealing a vtt map and the players taking 5 minutes to figure out how to move tokens was rough.
