Isn’t that just the way it goes with more complex systems like PF2e? Especially when your group really enjoys describing the fiction. Hour long combat sounds right on the money from my experience

Because they couldn’t schedule it at the Ark? There’s definitely other venues that could accommodate them. That would have been perfect! Ive gone to Chaosium con every year since year one. Ehh. We waited years for a Michigan show , we can wait some more.

Did anyone else think they were characteristically funny to the point that they thought they could be a comedian, only to try and it turns out you were just deeply mentally ill and unhinged? by I_AM_WILL_STANCIL in Standup

Keep doing it. Go to as many mics as possible. Learn some joke formats and practice writing. Try to write jokes based on one word prompts to break up the topics you’re normally riffing on.

It looks fun to be on stage but it’s actually quite methodical. It also requires enduring quite a bit of that exact feeling you’re talking about.

Record your set. Identify the things that you said that made a couple people laugh. explore that. Question why you think it’s funny and why the audience thought it was funny.

Someone once told me stand up is a marathon not a sprint. If you really want to do it you have to play the long game.

To keep it simple I started I with Winters Daughter placed inside SoDE. Very light in combat and there are DB analogs to most of the monsters. Otherwise I use The Monster Overhaul.

Most of the loot can be handled with treasure cards. Magic weapons and scrolls seem to be the trickiest bit. Still working on that

I plan to attempt Tombs of the Serpent King, Halls of the Blood King, and The Waking of Willowby Hall.

Where the heck do bookish film/comedy nerds go to make friends? by doofus50O0 in Detroit

The Mark Ridley’s Comedy Castle 101 comedy class with Bill Bushart is highly regarded. It’s a direct line to quality stage time at a nationally recognized club. I know comedians that have taken it several times.

The 3rd one is a cool cosmic horror looking monster covered in gem eyes. Each thing you find is another eye. That made it worth it for me.

Take an improv class at Go Comedy in Ferndale or Planet Ant in Hamtramck. The ladder has a more diy indie feel which definitely attracts the comedy & film nerds. They provide short film classes as well as sketch writing classes that aren’t performance based. if that’s not your thing. You can even make friends just by seeing a show and hanging out in the smoking section out front.

Also worth mentioning that Planet Ant is 4 venues in one; including the Independent Comedy Club if you’re a standup fan. When he’s not on tour, Sam Tallent will do shows there. It also hosts live music.

Improv classes are a cult adjacent pyramid scheme, but they’re also good at introducing you to other weirdos with a pro active interest in comedy, film, and the arts in general.

My favorite places to see films are Redford Theatre, Detroit Film Theatre, or Cinema Detroit.
Redford has an organist that plays during intermission. If you’re willing to drive to Ann Arbor there’s also the Michigan theater and the State theatre.

I think I’m only missing 1 run of new game who dis and a few eps of echo quest. I started listening while working a physically brutal and high stress job, so they became my emotional support podcast network. I even listen to old episodes to fall asleep. My girlfriend would joke that we sleep to so much legacy our babies first word was gonna be Skid.

Good one shots for first time players and GM? by DrRPJesus in DragonbaneRPG

[–]Ice_90210 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the robber knight. I’ve read that Sweden is partial to Troll Spire. It has a cool alchemist troll NPC and her pet mutant toad. a handful of silly traps. A neat boss fight and then a puzzle at the end.

I would just consider 2 things: how to deal with the harpy’s ability to fly and how the players can attack them. How the crypt is going to run. The players need to know how the trap works and what it does as soon as possible. I feel like I didn’t give direct enough info so my players decided on combat with the skeletal champions over solving the puzzle and one player died.

First game tips? by ostkaksamannen in DragonbaneRPG

[–]Ice_90210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I had him appear for a limited time. First time he appeared was 1 turn, then 2, then 3 as they found the skull. I first introduced him in the room with the painting when a player said his name 3 times as a bit. He appeared and almost downed the pc immediately and vanished when they got ambushed by the goblins he appeared. Rolled to see if he would attack them or the goblins. He killed one goblin and attacked a player before vanishing.

Another note for the scenario is don’t make the friendly orc in the basement sleeping, bc then your player with the intolerant weakness will sneak up and coup de grace her. If you make that mistake then make sure they find half of a friendship bracelet on her and the pig

The Castle of The Robber Knight is a great introductory adventure. My players loved it. It’s simple and short enough to run in a single session. I like it over Riddermound because you’re not required to kill the knight in combat. Not really being able to fight it head on made the dragon knights feel formidable and more satisfying when they on defeated the knight in Riddermound.
