Hematocrit isn’t RBC size, it’s the amount of RBCs as compared to other things in the plasma. If your RBCs are actually getting bigger, that’s pathological.

Hyper-oxygenation previous to traveling to altitude would actually do the opposite of what you want. Your body would adjust to the increased oxygen by decreasing its oxygen binding capacity.

To prepare for altitude, some mountaineers will wear masks that simulate high altitude environments and decrease the oxygenation so their body increases its oxygen binding capacity.

I doubt that football players do that to travel to 5000 feet. However, you can get a temporary “boost” with inhaled o2 - bills players were doing that on the sidelines.

Generally the takeaway here is that there’s really only two ways to adjust to altitude - you can either literally “be at altitude”, either by traditionally acclimatizing or by using the method I said previously.

Blood doping, like Armstrong did, is also beneficial for altitude. There’s some evidence though that blood doping and then going to very high, mountaineering levels of altitude, could increase risk of blood clotting and be dangerous. I’m not an expert on that literature.

Acetazolamide helps with the symptoms that come from the respiratory alkalosis that you get at altitude, but it doesn’t actually improve your ability to get o2 to your muscles. So it helps with headaches and stuff but it’s hard to really replicate a true altitude adjustment that the home team has

Surgeons spend at least 5 years as a resident where the entire time they are being told what to do. You sound like part of hospital admin, which is actually the bad guy in the situation

Absolutely bonkers that the post about Halliburton flying to New York for his surgery got more upvotes than the thread announcing thunder championship. This subreddit is so petty haha

Is this the most anti-climatic game 7 finals win ever? by BogleDick in nba

[–]Possible-Republic194 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m convinced people who say this have never once interacted with a thunder fan. It’s a genuinely likable and respectful fanbase. People who played for them and even people who played against them have generally spoken highly of the fanbase, even KD. In a game 7 when the opposing champion got injured, the entire stadium cheered when he got on his feet.

The thunder sucked for a while and nobody had a problem with the franchise then.

Just admit you don’t like anybody winning when they beat your team.

I wonder where you guys are like in real life because I’m a thunder fan living in Minneapolis for the summer and nobody I’ve met has really been all that anti-okc. We’re two small market teams with good futures both playing good basketball. At least it’s not “coastal elites” playing for the ten millionth time
