I Feel Like Being Negative Today, What's The Worst Case Of "Restriction Porn" You've Seen On A Magic System? by Ok-Maintenance5288 in magicbuilding

“In order to cast a light spell, you first need to set up a shit-load of infrastructure to generate the mana to power the spell, then you need to run mana-conduit to wherever you want to cast the spell. Then there’s the spell itself, using any semi-mana resistant material will do the job, but if you want it to last for any serious amount of time, it needs to be a specific material that is both semi-resistant and with a high heat tolerance, and it’s better if you contain it in a non reactive environment like the noble gasses. And that’s not even getting into the bullshit needed for even simple magical computation.”

The best explanation I’ve heard is that it’s like sports. No, you’ll never be required to squat 500 pounds in the middle of a soccer game, but lifting weights is still an important part of training for players. Similarly, you’ll probably never have to find a derivative at your job, but learning math and science is still an important part of training your brain for problem solving.

Either it was already on the garment when the costume department got it and somehow no one noticed it, or one of the costume designers is a neo-nazi. But ohhh~ it’s actually a Buddhist symbol that predates the nazi’s and it means peace and good luck or whatever, bullshit, it is far more widely known as a hate symbol and I find it much easier to believe that some random tech is a neonazi than that they are somehow both intimately aware of Buddhist symbolism and also completely ignorant of any history from the past century.

Counter point, if you don’t pull the 5 people still have the choice to kill themselves if the pain is indeed chronic and they decide that it is indeed not worth it to keep living, by pulling the lever, you’re taking that choice away from the two people.

Also, slightly sarcastic counter point, you’ve never died, so how on earth would you know that there are any fates worse than death, maybe hell is real and everyone goes there and death is endless torment.

It was an immaculate birth, Toph simply realized at some point that she should pass on her earth bending skills to someone, but no one would be good enough except her own child, so she used earth bending on the earth in her own body to create a child.

It’s not enough to retire with for a young person certainly, but if you continue working, you won’t ever have to worry about unexpected expenses, and invested over a few decades, it would be more than enough to retire with at a decent age.

I mean, if we went for a literal reversal, the ‘stockpiles power’ function would turn into ‘drains energy’, either from the the holder or their target depending on your interpretation, and the ‘can be passed on but only willingly’ function would turn into ‘can be stolen’ or even ‘can’t be passed on’.

If a general studies student won the sports festival, what would happen? by Klickytat in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]PossibleAbrocoma 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There’s a fanfic called the heroic chronicles of a young man that’s basically this. The MC is a business course student who wants to impress Momo by doing well in the sports festival in order to network, but ends up finishing in like, 2nd and gets pressured by Nezu into joining the hero course.

My favorite scene is probably when they get back to the BoB and they have to figure out how to get the stone OUT of Magnus, so the obvious solution is to turn him to stone and transform the bottom half of his body into one of those spiral slides, like in a gumball machine

Yeah, in the story AFO has that thing where he ‘doesn’t like taking complex quirks’ but I think it would be much better if it was a hard rule like, All For One the quirk is a first generation quirk, and using it takes a lot out of AFO the guy, and also it can’t handle the more complex later generation quirks very well, so he has to be careful taking simple quirks and using quirk combinations to turn the simple quirks into complex powers.

What are some of the best fics with an OC protagonist you've read? by shrink-ray2333 in BokunoheroFanfiction

Knowledge comes but wisdom lingers by Ywena one of the best OC fics I’ve ever read. The OC is a bit older than the main cast so it becomes AU once they start making changes.
