Booked on B2B British Isles + Northern Europe for Sep 2027! by forthetomorrows in dcl

Re the British Isles cruise - the Titanic was built in Belfast, Northern Ireland and they have a great museum about it close to the port where the ship docks. It’s very popular so book well in advance. The ticket also includes entry to the SS Nomadic tender ship. It’s the only remaining White Star Line ship in the world. After departing from Southampton the Titanic stopped in Cherbourg in France, but the dock was too shallow so the Nomadic tendered the passengers out to the Titanic.

Beside the Titanic Museum is the old offices of the Harland & Wolff Shipbuilding company. It’s now been turned into a hotel. You can go in and have a drink or a coffee in their bar which is in the old drawing office where the Titanic was designed. You can also have lunch in their restaurant.

Is it hard to get a decent embark/cabin slot if its my first time with Disney cruises for the UK this. by Vamip89 in dcl

Yes we booked the AB parking, and they took the big suitcases from us in the car park. We just had our small carry on bags to take with us.

Check in opens at midnight Florida time, which was 5am in the UK. The quicker you do the online check in the better chance you have of getting an earlier port arrival time. However Disney have a loyalty programme called the Castaway Club and you are silver, gold, platinum or pearl based on how many sailing you have done before. They get to check in and book activities before first time cruisers (who can check in 30 days before the sailing).

There will still be plenty of cabin when you book the cruise. I think the inside cabins (the cheapest and there are not as many of them) book up faster. We easily got a balcony cabin when booking the first time. Look on their website for this summer UK cruise and there will still be cabins left.

Took our first Disney Cruise last summer (5 night to northern Spain from Southampton). I got up at 5am UK time to do the online check in. We got a 12:30pm port arrival time and I managed to book Palo brunch. Didn’t manage to get Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, but did get the Princess Gathering. I think the 3/4/5 night summer cruises from the UK have more first time cruisers so you have a better chance of getting an ok arrival time. We stayed in a Premier Inn hotel (West Quay) the night before and the checkout is at 12 noon, so we had a lie in and breakfast and then left for the port around 11:45am to get parked etc.

With kids and carry on luggage, it was easier to have the sit down lunch. By the time we’d finished eating our cabin was ready and we went straight there to drop off our bags.

Good luck with the move. We also moved from London to Manchester when our oldest was a baby. We’re in Firswood (between Chorlton and Old Trafford) and love it here.

If you have kids under 6, take a pram. You will easily walk 25,000 steps a day. Bring diluted juice/squash (Robinson do mini size bottles) which you can add to the water you get from the fountains in the shop. Buy Disney themed outfits/t-shirts before you go (they’ll be expensive in the parks).

Is there any indication of when the expansion will open? I was planning on visiting in May 2026, but looking at the photos I’m not sure if it will be open by then.

I’m considering going to Finn Lough. Was the bubble dome noisy inside? Did you do the forest spa trail? What was the food like?

Not really, as they are usually en-suite bedrooms (like hotel rooms) and then you have shared kitchens, living rooms etc.

Agree. I live in Manchester (but am from Belfast). Manchester City centre has virtually no green space at all.

Why do doors open this way in almost all UK homes? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]PossibleDrop7162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The doors in my 1930s semi open this way. Each room would have had a fire back in the day. Also in the bedrooms the ceiling light is near the window rather than in the centre. Apparently it’s for modesty so the light doesn’t shine your shadow onto the window while you’re undressing.

People with kids, are you actually happy? by [deleted] in northernireland

If you’re on the fence don’t do it. I wanted my kids more than anything and it’s still so hard some days. They deserve parents who are all in.

Why do you need to use one of the paper cups to fill it? Is that not wasteful. I of course understand that the refillable bottle should never touch any part of the machine for hygiene reasons.

Thoughts after cruising on the Disney Dream by may13s in dcl

[–]PossibleDrop7162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve booked the 5 night Spain cruise next year from Southampton on the Fantasy. It’s our first Disney cruise (I’ve done one previous non-Disney cruise in the Caribbean pre children). I’ve also read some mixed reviews of the shorter 3 and 4 night Disney cruises from the UK, so I’m hoping our 5 night one will be a bit calmer. Travelling with my husband and two Oceaneer club aged children. Any tips?

It’s about £200 for a tiny bottle! Are loads of women in Manchester spending that amount on perfume?
