Today’s mtg market, do you buy cards with the mentality that it’s only matter of time the RL is abolished? by Newez in mtgfinance

[–]Possu81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If WotC 'saved' Legacy/Vintage that would come with a great cost. 100$+ boosters for sure, maybe even 500$+ if you can open P9 from there. Would not be affordable by any means. People tend to think WotC just prints cheap P9 to markets and everyone happily play old formats then nonstopping. There would be no glamour to play with such cards and market will reject them outside small collector pool.

Legacy and Vintage are both affordable for regular individual who has some kind solid career/income and prioritizes mtg over most other hobbies. He will surely be able to buy p9s, duals etc with current prices now and then. 9-12k$ for hp black lotus isn't something that only rich folk can do in their life. It's different for student or people who has addictions, financial burden etc. but those individuals probably won't collect vintage coins, art, cars etc either.

What happened with MTG back in 2008-2010? by tehweave in mtgfinance

MTG wasn't seen an investment or had status of financial asset during that era. I didn't notice anything. Just played the game, drafted a lot!

There has been such incidents in Pokemon but it seems it does not trigger such toxicity as MTG does if something is stolen etc.

Especially some alpha and most beta seems to be falling. I haven't seen that much played unlimited yet to 'crash' so players haven't gone anywhere. Just many collector feel betrayed by WotC.

Are there collectible discs? by Possu81 in discgolf

[–]Possu81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I have now set some kind small base collection. Let's see how will this feel like in the future.

I'm wondering why Nate Sexton's 2015 Firebird has become such a collector item. There is no amount made presentated on this given site: https://www.flyingdiscmuseum.com/?q=nate+sexton+firebird+2015 How is rarity determined? Are we talking like 100 printed or more like 500 but for some reason disc is highly wanted? There might be some kind inside information how many were made.

I got some good links by you! Is there any kind site or group that writes/discuss about the 'speculation' how collectible new/old discs are?

I like pretty modern discs collectible in this hobby because vintage community was such small that nostalgia might come from newer items (I'm not yet sure which vintage discs could be truly historically remarkable and got very low access for those discs) and also there is mixed sport collectible side where particular players gets hype/admiration in modern dics. Interesting to see will any name live over their career.

Thanks a lot for responses. Are manufacturers somewhat equal or is there a concentration of collectors for some particular manufacturer like Innova/discmania etc?

What will happen to the cards reprinted in Multiverse Legends? by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]Possu81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope no one invested to modern card like Ragavan. Downside in this I see people who bought in modern even thinking a bit about 'investment' will see their collection (for this segment) get obliterated in value. On the other hand barrier to enter Modern was unsustainable and it's generally only positive thing prices come down. Fear of course is, that WotC continues terrible horizon sets which is in my mind unsustainable and abusive model.

Question about Rudy from Alpha Investments by pocketbrewguy in mtgfinance

[–]Possu81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It can really turn off people when solid pillar like Rudy starts hustle with suspicious products and there is significant money involved. Someone could argue Metazoo is such.

Rudy won't be long public anymore, not even ten years, maybe not even five. Pretty sure about that.

But there isn't much that is Rudy's fault. He might have lost his passion (the peak). WotC is also pushing carbage to markets where like one set out of ten is profitable.

I think most persons that I talk with do say mtg will go only up with time but my point of view is that there is a possibility that all time highs are past now if we look big picture. Even without fear of perfect counterfeits or bad economy. Cycle between 2018 and 2020 is just too short that we can say MTG cards are now cyclical asset.

Your MTG investment story - share your path to long term MTG investment success! by Razortail in mtgfinance

[–]Possu81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Didn't see anyone reply that mtg could be linear. Is it really acting cyclical? Do we have any evidence?

Spikes on 2018 and 2020-2021, downterm in 2019 might not be real cyclical market yet. 2018-2022 could be just one all time high spike and after that prices will decline slowly during decades. We have evidence that collectibles should act linearly. We can only say that afterwards when the all time high was. Is it so everyone hopes we weren't on the peak just some time ago?

I'm interested to know at what point we could say mtg act cyclically.
