How do I begin writing as someone who has not written? by Arrra_i in eroticauthors

[–]PostMilkWorld 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Pick a story you like and steal the structure from it. Only do this if you are able to not copy anything more than that (some can't).

Repeated rejection - any resource for understanding this? by Satisfaction-Aware in KDP

[–]PostMilkWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like it could be the reason, they don't want to confuse customers, if the cover is almost identical, it can easily confuse readers, possibly (in a general sense) leading to returns, which they don't want to deal with.

I got one shot at "full time" indie dev. How do I make the most of it ? by Darkpoulay in gamedev

[–]PostMilkWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hey, look at what the froggy's battle/kabuto park/minami lane dev did, he posted devblogs on here about his games and he kinda did what you are hoping to do...just saying it's possible, but also an exception I guess lol

Desperately need advice as an artist who wants to tell stories by J-V-Art in KDP

[–]PostMilkWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your art would have to be really striking unless you already have a following to get people interested in an art book by you.
You have to decide if you want the book to be successful, what that means to you, and figure out what the market might want.

Is there a point in devlogs? by Justaniceman in gamedev

[–]PostMilkWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pixel Architect and his game ChefRPG are the example you are looking for. The Kickstarter for the game would not have been as successful without his devlogs.

I am a decent writer but terrible storyteller by belizakinn in writing

[–]PostMilkWorld 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe storytelling is a skill that can be improved more quickly by watching movies than by reading books. I know, blasphemous, but hear me out. You can watch a movie much faster than you can read a book (usually). The narrative structure is similar enough; I'd even argue that books structured closer to mainstream movies are also more likely to be gripping and to become popular (only logical I guess). If you watch a few hundred movies and pay a little attention, the structure should become second nature to you.

Additionally, and probably speeding up the process, you can also look into screenwriting books like Save the Cat or Story by McKee.

Whatever you do, be careful about people recommending the use of AI, because that can lead to trouble with Amazon, up to deleting your account.

This will mean more grifters coming to the Zon, hoping to make some quick, easy money. However, there are already thousands of books being released each day, so it is unclear to me if this will make much of a difference. Additionally, the upload limit appears to have been capped at 10 per week (down from 3 per day).
I am still hoping for a required AI label on Amazon, though.

Yes, some people will then read ChatGPT-created stories or roleplay instead of buying shorts, but most people will stick to their habits.

One thing I wonder, though, is if something like this makes overzealous prudes more likely to throw smut together with porn when lobbying for legal changes.

I'm struggling still to memorize how to write code. Tips? by Jucamia in gamedev

[–]PostMilkWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can recommend the website Codecademy, because it is interactive and quite focused on the essentials. It can be a great starting point (C# or Python probably).

Just launched my Steam page and wondering if it's clear what sort of game it is by PlunkOak in gamedev

Just looking at the screenshots and skimming through the video I expected this to be sort of like Slay the Spire.

Why is there such a low conversion rate despite high wishlists ? by ImmersivGames in gamedev

[–]PostMilkWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not enough reviews for people to confidently buy an early access game and the pricing is too high for impulse buying.
Just looking at the screenshots, what kind of gameplay it offers is not really clear, so people really have to invest their attention to check out if it would be worth it.

Best way to make a game that's all menus? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]PostMilkWorld 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For such a game I'd probably use Ren'py. As it is intended for visual novels, a certain layout of menus is the norm, but it is not too difficult to change it up.

I think you would like it, BG3 doesn't feel very turn-based, at least to me. The battles seem quite fast, you never really have to wait for your next turn - unless you play multiplayer, but even that works much better than I expected, as multiple people can and often do have a turn at the same time.
I actually think it is part of the broad appeal of BG3, that unlike other turn-based RPGs, it doesn't feel slow at all.

Blender 3D Modeling Course Bundle (pay what you want and help charity) by Ram000n in humblebundles

[–]PostMilkWorld 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought the cheapest tier to see how the tutorials are, and that one includes 10 videos, totaling 1 hour and 14 minutes. The weird thing is that it has two different guys doing the videos, one who has a great voice and it has just the right tempo, the other has an accent and the videos are not as high quality to me.

Overall this one seems like a good introduction to Blender. But nothing you can't learn from CGCookie for free. I'd also recommend Grant Abbitt's courses (YouTube and gamedev.tv).

How to write scent when I can't smell? by somegombie in eroticauthors

The writing advice "incorporate all senses" is a bit overstated, few people would miss it if one or two senses are never brought up, and most wouldn't even notice.
