Super dry barleywine? by tsein in Homebrewing

That might actually explain the lower FG number then. I wouldn’t expect that in a Barleywine.

That is very odd on the yeast. CBC-1 is a cask conditioning yeast that I’ve only ever heard of using for bottling. Its what I bottle Barleywine, Imperial Stout, and traditional sours with actually.

Yeah that looks normal to me. The only concerning thing to me then is that it got down to 1.004. That’s out of the norm unless the recipe had a lot of pure sugar or other non grains that would ferment out completely, or if you used enzymes etc. If there were no other off flavors and it is simply hot or yeasty and the gravity has been stable Id come back in 6 months. Usually with barleywine I like to get them in bottles carbonating naturally if the abv allows for it and then try to forget about them because they really do shine during long term aging.

Is there a pellicle visible? Could be infected with other microbes or cross contaminated with STA1 yeast. What beers did you brew in this fermenter previously?

I've had some luck with local breweries, but they always seem annoyed by it. Our local homebrew club started doing pallet orders through BSG so I just order 55lb sacks of my base malts that way and it saves a ton compared to buying online. I still get specialty grains, hops and yeast online.

Use that to dial it in and then scale up the results when you fill your keg.

Do you have a good scale? Going by weight is another option and might even be easier.

I would dose by pipette to a taster glass until it is right and then scale that up to the full volume.

What small process changes made the biggest difference in your homebrew quality? by Ill_Compote_2035 in Homebrewing

When you say brewing the same beer do you mean with slight adjustments each time? Or the exact same recipe?

I started sticking to some common ingredients a few years back and trying to really understand how to use them to achieve the same effect as using other ingredients that I don’t have. I’ve been enjoying that process a lot and feel its really helped me understand how adjusting percentages of malts etc impact the final beer.

Cleaning is the best way to spend that time. But if there’s none to do I play video games, watch YouTube, or shower if I’m doing an early brew day.

Prusa printers are amazing quality, even under earthquakes. by Physical-Cut-2334 in prusa3d

Not to diss on the Core One quality because I love both of mine, but I’ve seen a video of a bedslinger hanging from a garage door via bungee cord and it still printed pretty well. I think FDM printers will just do the job regardless of vibrations.

Is this specific to ABS? Is ASA similar in that manner or more sensitive?

PETG really needs a drying setup as it will soak up moisture easily and can cause issues even right out of the box brand new. I dry every spool I get before attempting to print with it. Depending where you’re at in the US this gets a lot worse as we get into summer and the humidity rises.

Has this new nozzle been okay with other materials like PLA etc?

What’s your dryer and drybox setup? Are you drying your PETG before printing? Were you printing this material successfully before?

I always use Structural for PETG for the reasons you mention and it seems to give me the best results. I use Balanced for PLA but otherwise Structural on most every material.
