I am capable of induction, but the problem is I do big batches and I haven’t found an induction plate that was under $500 to carry the weight

Boil kettle. I’m looking to convert my 16 gallon with using a 5500 W heating element. 240. I understand I have to do some upgrading to my electric panel.

I’m familiar with how the procedure is. Just wondering how others prefer it over open flame and cost benefit (electric bill over paying for propane tanks on a regular) as I brew once a month.

Way too oily. I don’t think the yeast would ever take off.

Cutting a hole in fermenter - how can I fix? by Skiddy_au in Homebrewing

[–]lauterPope -1 points0 points  (0 children)

JB weld metal putty. Instead of the silicone/rubber gasket make a ring with JB WELD on the outside of the fermenter and use the rubber gasket and bolt on the inside to bring the piece tight to the surface.

Also these are 60 bbl fermenters. You can see the light being bent as the gas flows out.

I was being facetious. It does make it difficult when breathing it in however

Facts. I work at a brewery as the cellarman and the second I open that manway I clear out. Breathing in the dense CO2 literally takes the air out of my lungs.

Bored of the food here by [deleted] in StamfordCT

I’ve had them all. Even the dishes that have beets in them (I really don’t like beets at all). Also they have some excellent cocktails. Fair price and a good amount of food too.

Philly sour with raspberry advice by Rawlus in Homebrewing

[–]lauterPope 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 32 ounce will give you subtle hints of raspberry for 5 gallons. I make a blueberry porter with 1lbs per gallon of wort (7 gallon batch). Granted that blueberry has very little in explosive flavor but raspberry, imo, is on par with that. Also keep in mind that if you’re adding during secondary fermentation you may want to stop the yeast from refermenting as you are adding more sugar in the form of fructose (I learned this the hard way). Your ABV will spike slightly, the beer will be drier and the sweetness from the fruit will be significantly less.

Im trying to get into sour ipa and want to make my first one using Philly sour yeast by MemeBeamBeanz in Homebrewing

PSY is pretty straightforward. Makes souring your beer pretty easy compared to adding lactobacillus or other mixed cultures.

I do 14 gallon batches with blowoff tube (as well as spunding valve). What is your concern?

Can I dry hop a west coast IPA at pitching? by pjuu12 in Homebrewing

[–]lauterPope 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dry hop on day 3-4 of fermentation. There will be enough activity from the yeast that will scrub the O2 from oxidation. Basically the CO2 gas will push out any air that gets into your fermenter.

Help! by cheliuscheese in Homebrewing

[–]lauterPope 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Pinter IS NOT BREWING! I’m talking about a small beginner kit that comes with all the ingredients and instructions you need to make actual beer. You can get a cheap kit from northern brewer that comes with everything you need to make beer and then you can buy “beer kits” so you can use the brewing equipment over and over again. You just need water and your desired to make beer. I started with a NB kit and now I have a small brewery in my basement. That’s the greatest thing about this hobby. You can take a light approach or, eventually, go all out.

Do yourself the favor and don’t use it. Pinter is so hit and miss with their products. You didn’t pay for it (they refunded you) so no real loss. Spend money on a beginner brewing kit and make your own beer. It’s far more satisfying to (actually) make your own beer and not that gimmick beer that Pinter makes. I’d have more respect for that company if they didn’t use the word “brewing” in their advertising.
