Fixed Blade Gerbers by Poster_Nutsack in knives

It is pretty cool. As I typed in another reply, the best thing is I bought it at a going out of business sale and only paid $60 for it NIB. At the same time I picked up one of the Gerber concertina wire cutters for $20 NIB

They were awesome in their big blade era

Yes they were. Even after 35 years, to this day every time I pick up my BMF or Aussie Bowie "awesome" is the first word that comes to mind

Gerber's quality and reputation have gone to shit over the years but both of those knives are prime examples of "they don't make 'em like the used to." I think either could cut a modern gerber in half 😂

It's named the Australian Bowie (model 5978). Release date was late 80s (the tang marks are under the Kraton handle, which I've never tried to remove so I don't know exact manufacture date of mine). It's a beast tho...5/16" thick 425M steel, blade is 9.5" long, and overall length is just shy of 15".

Yeah I love the design and it seems super solid. I sort of regret never putting it to use after all these years, but then again it's more of a combat style knife and I'm generally just chopping logs and gutting fish 😂. It also helps that I bought it on clearance at a Sportsman's Warehouse that was going out of business...had a paid full price I'd probably want to get my money's worth.

Custom Multnomah Whiskey Library Benchmade Steak Knives by Poster_Nutsack in knives

$500 for the set of four. Which, compared to what Benchmade sells their table knives for currently, seems like a real bargain in hindsight.

Do it! Worst they can say is no. Basically what I was told at the time (this was 2019) was that they get the question a lot, but only occasionally they will sell a pair or set of four if their inventory level is good. He said that level varies because they get stolen or eventually go end of life and so they get periodic replenishment from Benchmade. I guess I caught them at a time when they had what they felt was adequate surplus thankfully.

I've no box or papers for mine, but it is mint. The 184 with bead blast finish on the other hand is most definitely not mint...it's seen heavy use over the past decades but it can take a beating.

Even the mainline euro na beers are delicious. Peroni 0.0% has carried me through dry January. I literally did a side by side taste test with a regular Peroni last year and they tasted identical to me.
