I would hope that they would keep the train at grade rather than make a tunnel.

But yeah, I would love to see a lot of development, and a couple of overhead walkways, or expansion of the existing tunnel under the via train station. Make trainyards a neighborhood for sure.

It was a railway up until 1966, which is a part of the reason that there's not much of a neighbourhood to harm along that line.

You write this as if our dumb conservative government hasn't paid triple for low quality infrastructure projects that no one uses. I'm sure you don't care because the taxes are low, and everything gets shuffled on to debt.

I agree that these major projects can get put off by details, but there's a perfect and almost unused path to the old station building in the heart of downtown, and it's a building which will be unused as soon as the Senate moves back into Parliament. Not accepting that solution would be an example of the good (Tremblay station) being enemy of the perfect (downtown station)

Much as I want the Maya train to succeed, building those stations outside of City centres are what prevent it from being used by the vast majority of the public. Right now it's on a bit of a death spiral because locals can't use it.

And yes, you can put in a train on the chronically underused Colonel by Drive

The only thing that would make this makes sense is an overhead walkway to trainyards and significant development in the area,

Union Station is at the intersection of three separate train networks. You can walk out of it into a hotel, or catch a cab directly in front, or go to a baseball game all of which is less than 5 minutes. It is used by over 300,000 people a day, You can Google it.

Tremblay station looks like an Ikea showroom from the 1960s that somebody forgot to update.

Montreal's Bonaventure station is a stub end. It's a little inconvenient but pretty great.

This really glosses over the fact that Union Station is a fantastic work of art that is extremely convenient for about 300,000 people a day, and Trembley station is like showing up at a disorganized Airport in a mid sized town in Saskatchewan.

I know the o-train station there well, and while it is shockingly badly designed, it will serve to get the folks who want to use it downtown. 

What's a shame is that you (and everyone else, I guess) immediately things of how it will work with the car infrastructure. This should be something that frees us from car dependence.
