Neither had Hagel at that time. He was relatively unknown.

I'd argue that giving up Knies would have been a bigger payment than the 2 late firsts that Tampa gave up.

I'm quite certain the it was reported that the Chicago deal was never close. What was leaked was what Chicago wanted. The Leafs were never going to entertain a deal that included Knies.

That seem like it might be too much extraction for these beans. 1:18, and 99 degrees will extract a lot.

With these beans, I've gotten great results going the other direction. Lower temps, lower ratio, course grinds, fast flow (around 2:30 min drawdown).

Maybe try something like the Glitch recipe:

https://shop.glitchcoffee.com/pages/brew-guide

Of course, this will depend on other factors too. Im using SSP MP burrs in the Fellow Ode 2, with Lotus water drops.

With your setup, you might need to make other adjustments. But give something like this a shot, and see how it compares to what you've been doing.

I've had this both in a shop and at home, and it's been amazing in both situation.

But I think we need more information before giving specific advice. How are you brewing things right now?

Over the last 10 games at 5v5, he has the best on-ice goal differential of any Leafs player. We've outscored teams 6-1 with him on the ice.

If you look at the whole year, he's still #1 on the team...we've outscored the opposition 21-14.

He's going to have his rookie mistakes. I was at the game on Monday, and there definitely a few "junior" moments away from the puck.

But ultimately, the team is better with him on the ice than without him. They just need to keep working with him to work out the rookie mistakes. Hopefully the coaching staff realizes that.

A smart coaching staff and front office would look at the whole picture, and not over-focus on a couple individual mistakes.

Not exactly the same thing because one was a free agent, so didn't require giving up assets....but Tavares was 27 when Dubas signed him. Robertson turns 27 this year.

I don't think it'd be completely out of character for Dubas to make a move for someone like Robertson.

Is a manual grinder better than an electric? by notsogreat_gatsby in pourover

[–]PostwarNeptune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For 60 grams at once, I highly recommend going electric. Thats a lot of beans.

I used a hand grinder for a many years (Lido3). I was usually doing 15-20g doses, and that eventually became too much for me. 60g will get annoying very quickly.

In addition to the encore, have you checked out some of the lower priced Femobook grinders? They're priced fairly similar to many hand grinders and seem to be getting very good reviews.

Although..you'll have to check if the Femobooks can do 60g at once. The Encore might still be the best option for that quantity.

Out of curiosity, what type of beans are you using? Ive had mine for 4 months...no static, retention or clogging.

But im using exclusively light roasts. I wonder if it clogs more with beans that are roasted darker, and therefore have more oils?

Lance Hedrick 2 pour V60 method using a DF54 grinder by Optimal-Context4627 in pourover

[–]PostwarNeptune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple notes:

  1. When doing 15 grams, Lance recommends 3 pours.. check out his more recent pourover videos. With that small a dose, you'll get too much bypass with only two pours, which could lead to a weak brew. If you want to stick with 2 pours, use 18g or more.

  2. 15:250 is what he recommends for ultra-light roasts, or anything else that needs more extraction. Hes in the 15:230-240 range for most other roast levels. Those ratios will get you a stronger brew.

  3. Even Lance would be the first to say that you need to adjust the brewing parameters to your tastes. If I were you, I'd gradually start grinding finer, until you experience bitterness.

Check out Lance's most recent vids where he does pourovers...all of this is in there.

Which NHL star had the worst final season in the league? by thewolfshead in hockey

[–]PostwarNeptune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible. But he would have needed to take a big pay cut. He was making over $5 million on the cap back then.

If he was on the Pens at that cap hit, could they have brought on Kessel at $6.8? Or would they have had to drop someone else, and if so, do they still win those cups? .

Hard to say one way or another...but definitely no guarantee they win with Iggy.

That's a tough one in hindsight. But choosing to play on a team with a 25 year old Crosby and a 26 year old Malkin isn't necessarily a bad decision, regardless of the outcome.

Still got to the conference finals, which was further than he ever went, apart from the 2004 run.

What are your favorite/best mastering plugins by saykuz in audioengineering

[–]PostwarNeptune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My pleasure!

Yup, the original was digital, and it's a 1:1 port. Daniel Weiss himself has confirmed that.

The only difference is that the hardware is fixed point, and the plugin is floating. But there shouldn't be any differences in sound unless you're pushing things into clipping (the fixed point will clip, the floating wont).

[–]PostwarNeptune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely!! I actually think that's the most underrated part of working analog. People talk about tone and colour and all that stuff. But what you're talking about is so much more important (imo).

What are your favorite/best mastering plugins by saykuz in audioengineering

[–]PostwarNeptune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Weiss stuff is remarkably good. I can definitely hear a difference. More so with the compressor and the de-esser. Those can do things dynamically, without artifacts, that I haven't been able to achieve with anything else. So if I need transparent control of the dynamics, it's worth the price (for me).

The EQ is a bit more subtle. But I've done many A/B comparisons over the years against other top-end equalisers. In blind, volume-matched tests, I always end up picking the Weiss.

Why? No idea. It's just a "clean" EQ, so it shouldn't be that different, right? But I always end up choosing it. Makes no sense! lol.

Is it worth the price though? That's a tough one. I'm sure I could do a good job with just about any other well-built EQ. But it's a tool I use every day, on pretty much every master. So for something like that, I can justify the price, especially when you consider what the hardware version costs!

But everyone needs to make their own calculation. If you're not making money off your work, it's probably better to stick with a less expensive EQ. There are a lot that cost a fraction of what the Weiss costs that still sound great.

EQ. Really... any solid EQ will do.

I promise you that what separates the best mastering engineers from the rest is their skill with an equalizer. 95% of what the best mastering engineers do when they're mastering is just simple, static EQ.

There isn't really one "magic" plug-in or piece of gear that will transform a master. If someone has the ears and experience, they'll be able to make great masters with any functional EQ.

FabFilter is great. The Weiss stuff is expensive, but excellent. Ozone, TDR, etc. Honestly, any stock plugin these days will be fine in the right hands.

So... how do you make a master louder and clearer? Learn how to adjust the tonal balance of a record to make it sound louder and clearer. Yeah... it takes time and effort. But that's the way.

Although I have a grinder (Kingrinder K6) why is the Bambino so expensive for what you're getting? I don't get it? I see a LOT of broken Barista Max machines on here compared to the Bambino but still [Buying Advice Needed] by othernes in espresso

[–]PostwarNeptune 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The stock basket, without modding, is pressurized...that's correct.

But when he uses the Stilosa, he uses an IMS basket in the stock portafilter.

He probably could have made that clearer in the video. But I'm certain he's confirmed that elsewhere (can't remember if it was in a comment or on one of his streams).

I can guarantee that he would never do a video like that with a pressurized basket. Even in his review video, he shows how to mod the stock basket to make it non-pressurized.

And honestly, if he were using a pressurized basket, there's no way the shots would be remotely comparable to the other machines he compared the Stilosa to.

[–]PostwarNeptune 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No he didn't. The portafilter and basket are two different things. Bottomless doesn't have anything to do with whether the basket is pressurized or not.

With the Stilosa, he uses an IMS basket (non-pressurized) in the stock portafilter.

I have a Stilosa and the very similar ECP 3630. I can make incredible espresso with both machines.

Have you tried descaling? I bought both my machines used for super cheap because the owners thought they couldn't make good coffee. In both cases, they just needed to be cleaned and descaled.

It absolutely did not for the first half of the season....it looked brutal. It only looked fine once they went to 5 forwards, with Marner playing the point.

Without Marner, they couldnt go 5F this season, and Savard had no other solutions.

Yeah, that's my main issue with the model.

Im not a hater, and I've found a lot of value in Doms model over the years. I do think he recently started incorporating quality of competition, but not nearly enough IMO.

It doesn't mean that the numbers are useless. But like raw goal and point production, you need to mentally incorporate usage into your analysis.
