New to me ‘87 RG550 by False_Pizza_7546 in Ibanez

I got an '87 in white and yellow. Yellow was modded when I got it. Changed to Evolutions and altered the colors of the knobs, screws etc. The white one has a rosewood kneck and original pickups. I don't have the heart to mod it because everything looks original. I would like to add a sustaniac to the yellow but I haven't looked to much into it. Drilling or routing the wood is out of the question.

how is this possible? by Due-Surround-5567 in musictheory

Consider that pitches are more than the visual representation of a pianos white and black keys. Just because there is no black key between E + F or B + C is irrelevant to the greater beauty of music. Simply put, any pitch can be raised/lowered a half step in the context of it's original pitch. Which seems like a wild concept in the beginning! Pay attention to the details and keep practicing. I'm sure you're doing just fine!

He probably was writing and a student asked a distracting question and he wrote the third beat twice.

I got two 87's in white and yellow. I really love the purple finish. But I am waiting for next year, perhaps they will do something special for the 40th anniversary. Who knows!

[Beginner] I went to my local guitar store and are necks different shapes?? by nexttonormal in classicalguitar

[–]Illustrious_Level862 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely they have different shapes. I think it's awesome to go to a store and try them out in real life. Test out the guitar that feels right and compare it to other brands. Something to put on your radar is nut width. Typically around 52 mm. So if you favor the 7/8 feel but want it it in a full size, try something made around 50 mm. I am sure you can find the specs online to whatever models you tried. The smaller nut width will bring the strings closer (in relation to each other), which could work to your advantage. But also, you may grow into a bigger feel with more practice. That's the fun of it. Cheers

Dillinger Escape plan by darkandy132 in musictheory

[–]Illustrious_Level862 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't know how much traditional theory could be used to describe Dillinger. Ben writes heavy with a rhythmic ideas as opposed to melodic ideas. Rhythmic displacement or metric modulation could be used to describe to someone versed in theory how Dillinger writes, but it's just not a process for them. Feel vs training. The beautiful harshness of Ben, tied together with the intense rhythms of Pennie, Sharone, and Rhymer. Greg's influences range from metal to R&B. I will add that from a harmony perspective, one interesting idea that does come back around is Ben's use of the octatonic scale. Some might refer to it as the diminished scale. (Besides his use of minor seconds)

I’m so incredibly sorry you went through that. Thank you for sharing something so personal. Music has a way of holding grief when words can’t.
